Sure, you’ll see your obvious local favorites on the list, but it’s also chock full of hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path joints like Il Piccolo Villagio Ristorante, tucked away inside the heart of Islip. What they’re known for: Mofongo, pernil, pollo guisado, bacalao, flan

Yelpers say: “The smells are reminiscent of coming home – chicken breast so moist and flavorful (not easy), ribs just fell off the bone delicious and pernil is just like abuela would make (or better but don’t tell her). Oh and don’t forget dessert – tres leche is worth every calorie!” – Lynda C

What they’re known for: Al pastor tacos, shrimp tacos, nachos, chips and guac, large portions

Yelpers say: “This local gem hits all the right notes on flavors. Just the right balance to satisfy the palate. You can tell that the dishes are fresh and they really season the dishes very well… With the order they provided many sauces. Each one has different levels of heat intensity. We identified businesses in the restaurant category on Yelp, then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews. This list looked at businesses in and around the Long Island area. All businesses were marked open on Yelp as of June 30th, 2022. When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score as of June 30th, 2022.
