- Franklin Barbeque (East Austin)
What they’re known for: Pulled pork, fatty brisket, bourbon banana pie
Yelpers say: “The brisket was by far the best thing I had here. Especially that hot, fresh, fatty piece that they cut for you to try while you order. There is nothing like fresh marbled warm fat. They ask if you want lean or moist. I had no idea so I opted for a bit of everything. I can safely say now, just get the fat. It’s so much better. “ –Yelp Elite Carl C.
2. Terry Black’s Barbecue (South Austin)
What they’re known for: Beef rib, pork ribs, jalapeno cheese sausage
Yelpers say: “If you’re in the Austin area and are looking for delicious BBQ & southern food, Terry Black’s is a must! Not only was it highly reviewed online but whenever I asked someone in town for a recommendation for the best BBQ in town, Terry Black’s was first on the list and it did not disappoint. I visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening and it was extremely busy but the line moved fast. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they even have a mini bar where you can order a drink while you wait in line. I have tried a couple of different BBQ spots in the southern states and I can truly say Terry Black’s is one of the best, I can’t wait to visit again!” – Yelp Elite Fabiola R.
3. Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill (Downtown)
What they’re known for: Chicken and waffles, chicken fried steak, shrimp corn dogs
Yelpers say: “Moonshine Grill is a great spot in downtown Austin. It’s right around the corner from multiple hotels. It’s definitely walking distance, but you could probably park nearby too. We happened upon this place while walking and the wait was pretty short so we grabbed a bite!” – Yelp Elite Jackie L.
4. Uchiko (Rosedale)
What they’re known for: Hama chili, yokai berry, sweet corn sorbet
Yelpers say: “Ok so this is the best sushi I’ve had in all of Austin… maybe anywhere. They have high quality ingredients and really creative recipes that I haven’t seen elsewhere. My fiancé and I go here every time we want to celebrate something.” – Yelp Elite Aude L.
5. Odd Duck (South Austin)
What they’re known for: Pork belly, duck egg, braised goat pizza
Yelpers say: “Wow. This raised the bar for our Texas food trip. It’s almost sad that we started with Odd Duck first…. because I don’t know how the rest of the place will top this! We came in to celebrate a birthday and the tapas style allowed me to taste many dishes. I loved all of them– this is a rare occasion.” – Yelp Elite Kat B.
6. Salty Sow
What they’re known for: Truffle butter devil eggs, banana foster beignets, beef shoulder
Yelpers say: “Salty Sow is hands down one of the best happy hours in town! The prices are incredible for the quality and size of the dishes. I loved this restaurant and will definitely come back soon. Perfect place to take visitors for southern comfort food.” – Yelp Elite Allie R.
7. Gourdough’s Big Fat Donuts (South Austin)
What they’re known for: Nutty valentine donut, black out donut, funky monkey donut
Yelpers say: “WARNING: this review comes from someone who doesn’t have much a sweet tooth. I enjoy Gourdough’s every time I go, even though the donuts themselves often become too sweet for me. However, to counteract this, I always get a scoop of ice cream with my donuts which by some unexplained phenomenon, increases my ability to eat sweets.” – Yelp Elite Steven L.
8. Texas State Capitol (Downtown)
Yelpers say: “I’ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints. It’s a good touristy thing to do with out-of-towners, and I like the fact that you can do a tour or be your own guide (ah, sorta like the old choose your own adventure books…I wonder if they are still around) and still get something out of the visit.” – Yelp Elite Christa S.
9. la Barbecue (East Austin)
What they’re known for: Pulled pork sandwich, chopped brisket sandwich, pork ribs

What they’re known for: Bacon and fig sausage, poutine, drink chicken sausage
