Yelp’s top 20 spots for eyebrow services in the U.S.

Brows have officially hit their heyday. After being plucked to near obscurity in the 90s and 2000s, they’re back with top billing. Current trends favor full, natural, and perfectly sculpted brows, which means brow artists are in high demand (unfortunately, we didn’t just wake up like this!). Plus, if you have a history of over-plucking—or have the opposite problem (taming furry caterpillars)—a trusted eyebrow pro is invaluable.

Whether you need brow waxing, tinting, threading, or microblading to achieve eye-framing perfection, the right pro should understand your needs and how to achieve the perfect brows. If not done properly, these delicate processes can throw off your entire look.

The right brow service can enhance and define the shape of your eyebrows, whether you’re aiming to be on-trend or simply upgrade a natural, classic brow.

Tara Lewis, Yelp Trend Expert

Because finding the right brow stylist can be daunting, we reached out to Yelpers for trusted recommendations in their communities. Our list of the top 20 US brow bars features some of the country’s most notable brow artists, including microblading world champ Lindsay Ta of #3 Microblading LA in Los Angeles and celebrity brow stylist Taryn Clarke, owner of #12 Taryn Brows in New York City.

Many of these brow stylists are unsung heroes. There’s Tahira Yousuf of Eyebrows and More by Tahira in Fullerton, California’s (our #1 pick), Shila Sharma owner of Shila Eyebrow Threading in Las Vegas (#9) and others, who learned brow techniques from their mothers and grandmothers in Nepal, India, and Dubai before immigrating to the US. “I’ve known how to thread for as long as I can remember,” Shila told Yelp. “I don’t even remember being taught, everybody just knows.”

Most popular eyebrow services

Whether you’re a first-timer wanting to shape your natural brows, or eying something more extravagant, like semi-permanent microshading or microblading, it’s important to know what to expect.

“Services like eyebrow lamination and eyebrow tinting, for example, will not only freshen your face, they’re also pain free,” Tara explains.

The following is a quick primer on the most popular brow services.

Threading. This ancient hair removal technique, long popular in the Middle East and Asia, removes unwanted hair by twisting two strands of cotton thread to grab and lift hairs from the follicle. Results last 3–6 weeks.

Lamination. Using chemicals similar to those for hair perms, stylists flatten, straighten, and reshape brow hairs to achieve a fuller, fluffier, more defined look. Results last 4–8 weeks.

Brow tinting. A semi-permanent dying process, eyebrow tinting gives the appearance of thicker, more dramatic brows by deepening their color—or altering their color to match your hair. Results last 2–4 weeks, depending on type of dye used.

Microblading. This semi-permanent “brow art” creates the appearance of fuller brows by etching individual eyebrow hairs into the skin with pigment and a microblade tool. Your first appointment may take a couple of hours. Results last 3 years, with touch-ups every 6–12 months.

Pretty Threading, Mission Viejo, California
A brow service record for every customer ensures a consistent look and experience at Pretty Threading.

4. Pretty Threading, Mission Viejo, California

Pretty Threading gets its moniker from owner Pretty Kaur, who helped introduce Orange County to the art of threading, as only the 3rd salon to offer the service. “[Back then,] people thought that threading meant we were sewing in your eyebrows,” says Pretty, who started practicing threading on family and friends in 9th grade, before moving to the US from India to get an aesthetics license.

“[Now, clients] come with pictures, and [we’re the] consultants, letting them know why a look can or cannot work for them,” explains Pretty—who credits 22 years as a fashion stylist (before getting her aesthetics license) for her keen sense of brow style.

In addition to threading, the salon offers brow tinting, henna, and makeup services—even selling its own makeup line of vegan and cruelty-free lipstick and brow kits.
