It was a truly frightening night as the San Diego Elites united on the night before Halloween at Puesto Mexican Street Food in La Jolla for Yelp's Taco-Ween. The packed out Puesto was buzzing with everthing from a kamikaze killer bee to a dolled up Minnie Mouse. The clock struck 7:30, the party had begun and the dressed to kill crowd enjoyed what seemed to be an endless stream of food and drinks!
The walking dead and scantily clad were all checked in while Eric and his staff were constantly on the move ensuring that no Elite member would die of hunger or thirst. As generous helpings of homemade chips, salsas, guacamole, and shrimp ceviche were handed out, Puesto's staff made sure that an ice cold drink was not far behind. The beer handles were open and the selection was strong with Pacifico, XX Amber, Sculpin IPA, Rough Draft Blonde and Rough Draft Hop Therapy Double IPA all served on draft. Puesto's signature Frozen Mojito Margaritas made from agave wine and topped with steamed mint leaves did the trick for those more in the boo-ze mood and also were not in short supply. When it was time for tacos, the room really got moving! Starting with crispy yet melty cheese, (but eventually ending up wrapped in a tortilla) the Elites had their choice of chicken al pastor, carne asada, shrimp, zucchini and cactus, or the option to build their own with huitlacoche, potato rojas, soy chorizo, cilantro, onions, lime, and a variety of Puesto's homemade fresh salsas rounding out the creation station.
All in attendance closely grasped a ticket handed to them earlier in the night for what appeared to be your typical Elite party giveaway, but hey… it wouldn't be Halloween without a few tricks up our sleeves! Halfway through the party a curve ball was thrown and the Elites were asked to hand thier ticket to who they thought whipped up the best costume of the night. It proved to be a great way to work the room and meet your fellow Yelpers! Second and third place walked away with tickets to SWISH while an oddly sexy white swan took home a pair of tickets to the Grand Tasting at the upcoming San Diego Bay Food and Wine Festival. Jealousy filled the room and costumes are certain to be elevated to a whole new level next year with such amazing prizes on the line!
With the night coming to an end the question was asked: why stop at guac, ceviche, tacos, beer, and margaritas? This is when Puesto came through with
even more delicious eats and drinks to win the crowd over with their
irresistible deserts. Frozen horchata and street cups filled with fruit
and veggie sticks were dressed with lime, chili and sea salt were
served while the room settled into a collective food coma. Now that's
what we're tac'n 'bout!
A big thank you goes out to Puesto Mexican Street Food all of the Elites in attendance and for filling the room with fantastic costumes and a Yelptastic attitude! You can find all the spook-tacular photos on the Yelp Flickr page!
