Something Yelpy is brewing in Newton, and all signs point to Hopster's Brew & Boards! On Thursday, Boston's finest Yelpers and their guests flooded the window-walls of the area's first dedicated brew-it-yourself pub for a night of charcuterie, flatbreads and – of course – hand-crafted beer! From the initial stages of grain selection, to the syrupy malts and other flavorants and the subsequent steam bath that had outsiders wondering if something saucy was going down, Elites took part in the creation of some seriously potent potables, taking shiny brass vats of near-boiling water to creations like vanilla cream ale and floral lagers, all while learning a thing or twenty. Hannah R brought home a nugget from one of the owners: "Gretchen enlightened me to the awesome sustainable aspects of Hopster's–for one thing, all of the spent grains are brought to a farm in Dudley to be fed to the pigs. Then the pigs get eaten on your charcuterie platter! It's brilliant."As Hopster's sat anxiously awaiting its liquor license (thanks a lot Blue Laws!), we couldn't sample the previously brewed wares. Good thing the house-made ginger and root beers kept tasting glasses full and charcuterie-salted tongues hydrated. Following the brew times, our gracious hosts sent the crowd to the nearest legal bar for a little true brew social. Thanks much, across-the-street Bertucci's!
The Dwinq team caught the antics on Facebook and Twitter, the five-star reviews are fermenting and the new brewmasters are so hoppy on Talk. In a few weeks, the stellar batch of Yelp's own will be ready to drink. Anybody want a pint?
