Fusion food can occasionally get a bad rap, because oftentimes it can result in a lazy and muddled combination that is unrecognizable as anything we'd want to eat. However, the fact remains that in a globalized world, daring chefs will always combine flavors and techniques to try and make something delicious. And sometimes it works. At Fushimi for instance, the skilled artists in the kitchen are combining haute Asian cuisine with the best elements of French cooking, and last night they showed the Brooklyn Elite Squad just how beautiful that can be. Check out the reviews, the photos by Liz Clayman, and read on for more of the fun!

Immediately upon walking in the door, it's apparent that Fushimi is special. Even without great food and drink (which they have in abundance), the restaurant itself is worth checking out. As Virginia Y reports, "the venue was classy, chic and modern, very spacious" despite the large crowd yesterday evening. Dylan K confides, "I'd probably go back just for the bathrooms. Anyone who didn't get a chance to relieve yourself–man, you really missed out."

But it was still a Yelp event, after all, so the food took center stage. Ruwan J appreciated all the "trays of various small eats. my favorite: the bacon/date skewers; the Asian-esque tuna tartare. and the mushroom hors d'oeuvre–which was a nice mix of savory and earthy. YUM." For her part, Tashana B enjoyed "the fried lobster/ginger herb combo…probably my favorite thing on the sampler platter."

To make sure the party got started right, Chopin Vodka was on hand. This small-batch, family-owned producer of single-ingredient, premium Polish vodkas was featuring their prized potato vodka, as well as tastes of their new Wheat Vodka, and Mary P was very thankful that it was "actually smooth."

With a cosmopolitan crowd including a yelper in town from Paris, Cassidy P tells us "it was a great Yelp elite event. Good crowd, nice people, delicious food, fun Yelp swag (red Yelp sunglasses! my favorite!), and a surprise bottle of sake at the end of the night. What's not to love?"

Danielle P says it all though: "The cocktails were refreshing and on point, and the bites that were served were out of this world. Fushimi is a beautiful space and I will most certainly pay them a visit again."

A huge thanks goes out to Sunny, Alex, and the rest of the Fushimi staff that welcomed the Brooklyn Elite Squad in with open arms. It was an amazing evening, and I can't wait to head back for more.
Cheers,
