Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to diss a brie…pretty sure this is how the entire Elite Squad felt after last weeks event, #YelpsDairyDream at The Kapiti Store!
On arrival Yelpers were offered a refreshing glass of Church Road Sauvignon Blanc, whilst Kapiti kicked things off with tasters of their famous cheese toasties. Rachel, our lovely host, invited Elites to grab their very own cheese platter (yes, that’s right, that got one each!) and led us through a tasting of five Kapiti cheeses, which were each expertly matched with a wine from Church Road.
There was the Aorangi – a double cream brie matched with Chardonnay, the Ramara – a gloriously soft, washed rind cheese matched with Pinot Gris, their Smoked Havarti matched with a spicy Syrah, Tuteremoana – an aged cheddar matched with Merlot and last but most certainly not least, the multiple award-winning Kikorangi – a TRIPLE cream blue which was matched with a Cab Sav.
It was hard to pick a favourite, but Paul D found the Aorangi and Ramara revelatory: “the soft cheeses quickly changed my view of French inspired cheeses, so much so I've put them on the list for Christmas!”
To top things off, Kapiti handed out generous, four scoop bowls of icecream, which included their brand new flavour – nectarine and muscavado. Neera J aptly describes the new addition as “amazingly summery, creamy and fruity.” To add to the decadence, Yelpers were also offered Church Road's Sparkling Sauvignon to pour over their desserts creating boozy ice cream floats!
