One of the many awesome perks of living in the Bay Area is the fact that we're so darn close to the ocean! And this past week, a select group of South Bay and Peninsula (even a few San Francisco) Elites got to experience the Pacific Coast up-close and personal during our Surf's Up @ The Surf Spot Elite Event.

The Surf Spot opened in June, welcoming guests to its signature dining and entertainment venue. Pacifica, a bedroom community known for its laid back vibe and breathtaking beauty, was selected by Chef/Partner Derek Burns and partners Taittan Cowan and David Szeto as the first of what they foresee as a string of dining/entertainment destinations up and down the California Coast. The food concept, driven by Burns, reflects not only the street foods he and his friends encounter while surfing the world, but also his years of experience working with some of San Francisco's most influential chefs such as Julian Serrano, Elka Gilmore, Joyce Goldstein and Jan Birnbaum.

No, we weren't actually surfing; rather, we were much better situated on land watching the sunset. Plus, everyone in attendance will tell you that The Surf Spot's offerings were much more warm and appealing than the ice cold ocean on a Tuesday night! The Yelp crew was given a private area out on the venue's expansive back patio, complete with cabana bar, serving Blue Angel Vodka martinis as well as Strike Brewing Company Blonde Ale. "Sunny weather, outdoor patio with fire pits, yummy food and good people. What a great way to spend a Tuesday summer evening in Pacifica! Upon arrival the whole staff was welcoming and you could feel the nice cool vibe inside the restaurant," gushed Maria S.

Then came the food! A wide array of nibbles came out on trays, including Kalbi ribs, scallop/oyster bites, sweet 'n' sour chicken wings, meat pies, coconut shrimp, smoked bacon wrapped dates… just to name a few! "If that wasn't enough, squealed Cat V, "All of that fantasticness was followed by an array of desserts: carrotcake cupcakes, salted butterscotch pot de creme and lemon curd, topped with fresh whipped cream and served with both a raspberry and shortbread cookie." There was so much food, in fact, that there were leftovers sitting on the table. That's a very good sign at a party – it means everyone had plenty to eat and was completely satisfied with the offerings!

The rest of the evening mirrored Surf Spot's chill atmosphere. Because it was an Elites-only affair, everyone spent their time getting to know their fellow yelpers while having a few more drinks and bites to eat (if they could handle it!). And Chef Derek graciously greeted the crowd, explaining the theme of the restaurant and ever-changing menu. As the sun set and the fog rolled in, guests crowded around the fire pits and cozied up in their sweaters or blankets and slowly but surely made their way back home. Hey, the party's gotta end sometime. The good news? Surf Spot has a few more fans! Elites like Tinna H said it very clearly: Pacifica is a quick hop, skip and jump away from us, so I have a feeling we'll be checking out the Surf Spot again very soon."
Agreed! Check out the reviews as well as beautiful photos taken by talented South Bay Elite Lorrie M.

Until our next event, SYOY!
