To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th and Women’s History Month this March, we’re calling attention to some of the most amazing local shops around the country that are run by women with a list curated by Yelp Community Managers.
From Albuquerque to Chicago, hair salons to art studios, these awesome ladies are building businesses that power and inspire local communities around the world. A women-owned B-certified business, Equator works tirelessly to empower every link of the supply chain. They were named California Small Business of the Year in 2016.
Brooklyn Senior Community Director Peter D. chose Archestratus to highlight:
This is a one-of-a-kind space that offers up everything from books (on the fact and fiction of food) to Sicilian baked goods to coffee to wine. Archestratus is owned and operated by Paige Lipari, and her space is home to classes, readings, tastings, performances, experiments, dinner parties, book clubs, and more. Not only will they be screening the film “Malena” for International Women’s Day, but they host a Women’s Table that meets every month.
Houston Senior Community Director Farrah A. recommends The Cajun Stop:
Lisa Carnley (LC) was a twenty-something single mom transplanted to Houston via Hurricane Katrina. With no restaurant experience, she managed to open a run a thriving Cajun restaurant in an underdeveloped neighborhood of Houston – and during the recession! She now has two locations and is franchising out the restaurant.
Jessica, the owner of Elegant Elephant Baking Company, decided to use her love of baking to create gluten free treats for those who can’t eat gluten like herself. The business is named after her daughter, Ella, and now they are the major local distributor of gluten free and allergy sensitive products in Eugene and Springfield.
