Long before the beginning of the Charleston craft beer explosion, three guys growing beards were brewing beers in their garage. Fast-forward 9 years and Frothy Beard Brewing is a sudsy success story in the Holy City, cultivating a loyal following of craft beer enthusiasts and pizza lovers. We sat down with one of the owners, Joey Siconolfi, to get the inside scoop on the journey that started from the bottom, now they’re beer!
Why did you decide to start your business? Tell us your backstory!
Steve, Michael, and I brewed at home together for six years and as we got better at making beer and became more disillusioned with our “real” jobs we decided to live the dream and make beer for a living. Three years later, we partnered up with Wesley to take our dream to the next level and shortly after that Ryan and Zombie Bob’s was added to the fold.
Why do you love doing business here in Charleston?
Charleston is a fantastic place to own a business because the folks here love to support small local businesses! In addition to that we have a lot of tourism so we always have new customers coming in.
What’s the most helpful piece of customer feedback you’ve received?
Since Zombie Bob’s joined us we’ve essentially become a restaurant, but we wanted to maintain that laid back brewery vibe. Most of the constructive feedback we’ve gotten pertains to refining the ordering process for customers.
What’s your advice for other business owners or someone who wants to start a small business?
Do you. Most of our regulars don’t just come for beer and pizza. They come to interact with us as well. The most unexpected thing about opening a business was how many great friends we’ve made.
