On Portage Tours winery tour, the Rochester Elites savored the unsurpassed wines of Keuka Lake’s top vineyards. In addition to winery tours, they offer guided brewery and distillery tours to explore the region’s thriving craft beverage scene. You can buy one seat on the bus or gather a group for a tour focused on education and experience. On the drive to our first stop, Susan from Portage Tours led us through a tasting experience, sharing history of the Finger Lakes wine region, its grapes, and taught the group to taste like the pros.
Our first stop brought us to Keuka Spring Vineyards where we enjoyed our tastings on the outdoor patio overlooking the expansive lake and vineyard views. At this family-owned winery, we tasted a handpicked selection of their whites and red, including the 2017 Gewürztraminer, which was recently awarded the 2018 Governor’s Cup, signifying the best single wine in New York State for the year!
For lunch, we stopped at The Olney Place, a funky deli with an array of sandwiches and snacks to keep us fueled for the next two stops.
Next up was our visit to the beautiful Ravines Wine Cellars tasting room. Here we sampled several from their portfolio. We learned about the decades of experience and talents that the winemaker relies on to produce a stellar lineup of wines that pair beautifully with food, including their renowned dry Riesling.
Our final stop at McGregor Vineyard rounded out the day of tasting in their rustic tasting room. This tasting paired with some light bites, including the now coveted Whole In The Wall spinach parmesan pesto cream cheese dip. This round, we each picked five from their lineup to try and they offer something for every taste preference. The Black Russian Red is their signature blend of Saperavi and Sereksiya Charni grapes.
