Richmond Yelpers looking to give back and do good gathered at Gallery5 on November 20 for the inaugural Yelp Helps: Party With a Purpose – a celebration centered around philanthropy and nonprofit match-making! The feel-good fete featured 14 inspirational nonprofits, who were able to connect with the community while promoting volunteer opportunities, awareness, and ways to give back. What a perfect way to kick off a holiday season of helping!
Gallery5 was the perfect place to host such a community-focused event, as this award-winning nonprofit visual and performing arts venue is an anchor in the downtown arts community. Not to mention the historic building was once a firehouse, police station and jailhouse… a unique and impressive venue, to say the least!
While Yelpers explored the gallery, they also interacted with incredible nonprofits: Arthritis Foundation, Comfort Zone Camp, Dress for Success, Easter Seals UCP, Feast RVA, Girls Can, HomeAgain, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Studio Two Three, VCU Massey Cancer Center, and YMCA of Greater Richmond. From printmaking to writing Christmas cards for troops to sharing ideas for making Richmond an even better place, the evening was filled with creativity and do-gooding. Judy L "loved learning about all the wonderful volunteer opportunities in RVA and can't wait to help!"
While guests soaked up nonprofit knowledge, a dazzling array of delectable treats and eats tantalized their tastebuds. Crave-worthy creations from Sugar Shack Donuts, King of Pops, and Two Sweet Cupcake Boutique satisfied even the sweetest of tooths, while popchips and a Pretzel Crisps dipping station took care of the snack attacks. Vita Coco kept us hydrated throughout the night and Gallery5's brilliant bartender kept the booze flowing.
An enormous thank you to Gallery5 for sharing their incredible venue for this event. Many thanks to Splash DJ for rockin' the tunes, to our food and bev partners for pleasing our palates, and hats off to photographer extraordinaire Sara Clarken for capturing it all on camera. And of course, to the incredible nonprofits and Yelpers who made this event possible – thank you for all that you do for our community! Kari O sums it up perfectly: "This was such a great way to introduce some of the city's nonprofits to folks! The food was great, drinks were rockin' and a good time was had by all!"
