Friday, Yelp Elites and guests relived their prom, or in some cases attended it for the
first time, at the East Bay’s Off Like a Prom Dress
party blowout! Yelpers from all over the Bay area arrived at Berkeley’s
Doubletree Hotel for a spiked punch cocktail reception glammed up in 80’s spandex, beautiful silk dresses,
black tuxes, mink stoles (yes, we said mink), corsages, and other
fabulous finery, to dance the night away.
Yelpers like Gwen H and Betty H
feasted upon Doubletree’s spread of dreamy chocolate mousse, delectable raspberry tartlets, pea soup, tiny
pulled pork sandwiches, and other heavenly bites, while grooving to the DJ’s beats. Jamie L couldn’t get enough of the red and white wines from Bear Flag Wine, while Grace L raved about fruity sparkling Nuvo. Marsha W and Naomi K stuck to the kickin’ Jose Cuervo and Blue Ice Vodka margaritas. As the Doubletree dance floor began to fill up with boogieing folks, “inadverdent prom twins” Debbie L and Trina A posed among a slew of other yelpers, for PROM PORTRAITS
with camera savvy Connie C.
Once all guests had arrived, yelpers made their
way onto the sunset lit Hornblower, where guests were able to
sample a mouth watering cheese spread and decadent chocolate fountain, in between lining up at the bar for delightful pink Nuvo cocktails. As the Hornblower set sail on its moonlit cruise, baby blue clad DJ extraordinaire
Ruggy J stirred the crowd
into pure prom mayehm with a killer line-up that had Joshua L doing the
butterfly, and yelpers Bill B and Meg T – breaking it down to a
chorus of whistle and hollers. As the Hornblower glided across the moon graced water, Keane L and others were able to stand on the Hornblower’s stunning dock and marvel at
the glittering of city lights.
Belting out Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and grinding to Next’s “Too Close,” the dance floor was packed with yelpers busting out their fiercest dance moves. The music only stopped briefly throughout the energetic sea bound voyage, in order to to honor the crowning of the dapper Prom King – Steve N, and lovely Prom Queen – Jenn N. The beautiful couple led the dance floor’s last dance, which proceeded to evolve into an epic Journey sing-along.
With the Hornblower back at dock, yelpers kicked off their heels and loosened their ties – and made their way into the star filled night, rocking huge grins on their faces and carrying the famous Doubletree chocolate chip cookies in hand. It was definitely one prom to remember!
