If there’s one thing that’s dependable, it’s that Yelp Elites are bendable! OK, maybe not all of them. But the members of Elite Squad who joined for yoga at Portland’s Root Whole Body proved they could certainly stretch with the best of them! And even if they couldn’t quite twist themselves into a pretzel, they surely still enjoyed perks like group acupuncture, a buffet of vegan delights, and even complimentary massage! Now that’s what we call a Four Pillar Party!
To celebrate the opening of their new Slabtown location, Root Whole Body welcomed the Yelp Elites for a custom-crafted experience highlighting their four-pillar commitment to holistic wellness: food, movement, immunity, and pause. Upon arrival, Yelpers checked in and were treated to tours of the facility. Natural light and soothing tones created a sense of zen that followed the guests throughout the space, and they were impressed to discover amenities like the hydrotherapy tubs and an infrared sauna. They passed intimate spaces for numerous self-care services like facials and massage before arriving at the Naru Tea Garden. The lighting, music, and cushions were all soft, it was the perfect place to unwind with a cup of medicinal tea as they waited for their activities to begin.
Soon it was time to make their way into the yoga studio. The Yelpers arranged their mats and blocks onto the cork floor as instructor Rachel introduced herself and her personal yoga philosophy. Soon, the Elites were working their way though a customized blend of hatha and vinyasa yoga. An energetic playlist helped to keep each practitioner motivated while large fans kept the space comfortably cool. Though many of the Elites were new to yoga, they were impressed with their experience and inspired to incorporate it into their wellness routine.
After working up a healthy glow, it was time for a reward. In Root Whole Body’s cafe, the Yelp Elites were treated to a bountiful platter of selections from the ‘Tea & 3’ menu. Chinese marbled tea eggs, three root cake with shiitake, dashi, and tamari, and a roasted cauliflower salad were all crowd favorites. The sesame truffles packed huge flavor into a small package. And the stuffed dates definitely impressed! Guests could chose between a filling of traditional or cashew-based chèvre, which satisfied vegans and omnivores alike. And each guest was able to choose from Root Whole Body’s selection of medicinal teas, each blended to support a unique health goal. It was a filling and healthful meal that left the Yelpers feeling refreshed.
Next, it was time to return to the yoga room, which had been transformed into a group acupuncture studio! Practitioner Casey educated the Elites on the benefits of acupuncture and walked them through the process. She worked her way around the room, gently inserting the needles while making sure everybody was comfortable and relaxed. Guests felt their stress melt away as Casey soothed them with essential oils and aromatherapy, and as the needles came out, they were energized and inspired to learn more about the practice!
The event had reached its end, but the team at Root Whole Body weren’t quite out of surprises. Each Yelper was given a gift pack featuring everything from loose-leaf teas to offers for complimentary facials and massage. Selecting their services and booking appointments, the Yelp Elites truly understood Root Whole Body, their commitment to satisfaction, and their dedication to each of the four pillars of health. A Word From Our Sponsor
“The idea of Root Whole Body was planted over ten years ago, as I was going through my own health crisis overcoming a very invasive cancer. Although there were many fear pictures with the diagnosis (my mother and aunt had died from the same), my intuition led me to seek out more ‘life-affirming’ approaches to my treatment besides surgery and radiation. It was during this journey that I met some of the most amazing teachers and practitioners in massage, yoga, chiropractic and naturopathic medicine that became my life-long guides and changed my beliefs about the power of intention forever.
While I never acted on it at the time, I always wondered why there wasn’t a convenient place to access these services (certainly a hospital wasn’t life-affirming and driving all over town to individual offices wasn’t appealing). What if there was a place where preventative health was enjoyable? What if we built a community and lifestyle around taking care of yourself?
So, a decade later, I welcome you to Root. It’s in honor of those who supported me in my journey. And it is my sincerest intention that Root supports you in yours.”
