A perfect sunny Sunday afternoon was the setting. Grassa, the brand spankin' new, not-yet-open handmade pasta joint by Lardo's Rick Gencarelli was the setting. The occasion? A fantastic Elites-only preview supper – Yelp's Italian Afternoon event!
As Jesse B notes, "nothing makes us feel super Elite like hosting a lunch at a yet-unopened joint with a smashingly tasty meal!" No doubt, Jesse. And the folks at Grassa brought their A-game for this exclusive event. It started with special drink orders on the way in the door. Campari-sodas anyone? How about a Negroni made with New Deal No. 1 Gin? Or maybe a glass of rosé (perfect for a sunny day)? " The drinks were very Italian and delicious," as Brooke D confirms. "And if you didn't have one in front of you, it was by choice as the wait staff came by frequently to offer up another." Once the drinks were flowing, the chefs brought on the food. Katherine M puts it best: "This event was pretty much any pasta lover's wet dream. We were treated to four different pasta dishes, calamari, salad, and garlic bread. All of the pasta dishes were delicious! They all were perfectly crafted and cooked, and were paired with really lovely sauces." Yup. And this family-style spread offered as much as you can eat. Oh, plus a special desset finish of ice cream and biscotti! And Tom Maxwell Photography was there to capture it all.
Melvin T sums it up well: "We were very lucky to get this special sneak peak into Grassa." No doubt. Thanks in huge part to Rick, Nick, and the awesome staff at Grassa; Kurt, Kirsten and the folks at Chefstable; Caitlin and Campari; Tom from New Deal; Tom from Tom Maxwell Photography; Ana M; and of course the Yelp Elite Squad, without whom this wouldn't be possible.
Until next time, SYOY!
