It’s National Bike Month, so what better time to explore your city on two wheels? To celebrate, Yelp has teamed up with some of the country’s top bikeshare systems. Explore the top tourist hotspots and local favorites found near their most popular stops. This week, we hop on a Hubway bicycle and pedal our way through Boston, Massachusetts!
Top 10 Bike Stations – Greater Boston
10: MIT at Mass Ave / Amherst – Ah, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology! Grab a super burrito at local legend Anna’s Taqueria before meandering around the campus. Quaff a dirt cheap pint at The Muddy Charles Pub, and walk the 364.4 smoots across the Harvard Bridge to explore #6 on the list!
9: Central Square at Mass Ave / Essex St – There’s something for everyone in Central Square, Cambridge’s connector between Harvard and MIT. Sit at Craigie on Main‘s bar and hope they’ve their legendary burger still available, jam to the Chicken Slacks at Cantab Lounge, and finish the day with a scoop of 3B at Toscanini’s. 8: Harvard Square at Mass Ave / Dunster – Further north on Mass Ave, you’ll find the hustle and bustle of Harvard Square! Refresh with a Red Nectar from Crema Cafe (or, depending on the weather, LA Burdick’s hot chocolate) before feasting at Alden & Harlow. And before you ask, there’s no cah pahking on the Harvard Yard.
7: South Station (700 Atlantic Ave) – A train station that looks like… a train station? Sip a cuppa from The Well and meander up the Rose F Kennedy Greenway for sights along an urban oasis. Stop at the second James Hook (the first burned down in a 2008 fire) for a cold world NE-style lobster roll: knuckle & claw meat dressed with mayo and celery on a split-top hot dog bun.
6: Beacon St at Massachusetts Ave – Fuel up with a namesake hand pie at Cornish Pasty for a short jaunt to historic Fenway Park for a Sox game and a Fen frank. Get in that stretch at the seventh – you’ll need to make room for lobster roe noodles and fried oyster sliders at one of the most- and highest-reviewed restaurants in Boston, Island Creek Oyster Bar. 5: MIT Vassar St – Full from all the foods? Explore the greenery around Fort Washington (beware the cannon!), don your trunks and swim overlooking the Charles at the Magazine Beach Bath House & Pool, or bring the kiddo you strapped in to your Hubway bungee to Fulmore Park for a lil’ playground shenanigans. They’re all free!
4: Ames St at Main St – Outdoorsing is thirsty work. Think libations at stop #4, and a bulletproof coffee from Beatnik Beverage Company will keep you steady. Get it to go, and discover a hidden Kendall gem within the Cambridge Center Rooftop Garden, before deciding the beer’s the thing and raiding the seemingly endless number of taps at Meadhall.
3: MIT Stata Center at Vassar St / Main St – Head north, young man! But first, snag a pizza from newcomer Sulmona or stalwart Area Four before catching an indie flick at Kendall Square Cinema. Trying to decide between late night breakfast at The Friendly Toast, Nashville Hot chicken at State Park or The Smoke Shop‘s killer brisket may require a second movie.
2: Boston City Hall (28 State St) – Dodge the suits on State Street and the suits from City Hall to find some of the best grab & go eats in town. A traditional pork gyro from Zo, the chipotle pastrami at Sam LaGrassa’s… don’t forget Shawarma Falafel‘s shawarma and falafel, or sloppily satisfying diner-style burgers at Wheelhouse! Whatever you decide, lug your stash to the fountain at Norman B Leventhal Park and glop up your suit. Ya suit.
1: Seaport Square (Seaport Blvd) – With new biz popping up nearly every week, it’s no surprise the top Hubway stop is at Seaport Square! Vegan like you mean it at by Chloe. before popping in to see what’s visiting at the Institute for Contemporary Art. On pondering the aesthetic, shimmy down Seaport Blvd til you hit Harpoon‘s tap room for a fresh baked pretzel and pint of your pleasure. Sleep tight!
