As we begin week five of shelter in place here in Colorado, our usual health-conscious routines have gone by the wayside. Moreover, as we celebrate 4/20 from the safety of our homes—a first for us in Denver, the Mile High city and state capitol—let’s support local restaurants that are serving up those specialty stoner foods. From your couch, of course! Even if you’re not partaking in today’s festivities, we can all use some comfort food during these uncertain times.

Snarf’s Sandwiches

The Boulder-based sub shop has developed a cult-like following over the last 25 years. There’s a reason why Jack Black claimed Snarf’s as the “most delicious sandwich of all-time” last year prior to a Red Rocks performance. Though he may have chosen the BLT, we’d recommend the Italian Sandwich and the Prime Rib & Provolone from their classic menu.
Munchies Tip* Snarf’s “Not-on-the-Menu” menu boasts fan-favorites like the Chicken Cordon Bleu, the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, and the Big Fat Snarf—doubling the meat on this Pastrami and Corned Beef behemoth.
Bonfire Burritos

It wouldn’t be a Colorado list without a nod to the Smothered Burrito. The famous food trailer in Golden has won the community over with their tireless dedication to scratch-made, authentic Mexican food. Our recommendation would be the Chupacabra or the Javelina, smothered in Fuego Green Chile, of course.
Munchies Tip* The Bonfire crew has been perfecting their Green Chile recipe for years. And now you can order it by the pint ($3.50) or quart ($7.50).
Ian’s Pizza

Ian’s has proven that there are no rules when it comes to which toppings can go on a pizza. And that’s coming from someone who believes it’s a sin when pineapple graces a pie. Before you grab your pitchforks, let’s reminisce over a few of their mind-blowing concoctions over the years: The Taco Pizza, which unites Marinara, Mozzarella, Pico de Gallo, Cheddar, Sour Cream, and Spicy Chicken. With their most famous being the white-sauced Mac n’ Cheese Pizza, which tastes as good as it sounds.
Munchies Tip* Though the Mac n’ Cheese Pie receives most of Ian’s recognition, do not miss out on the Cheesy Potato & Ranch Pizza. Make it a 20” for a few bucks more while you’re at it.
The Brutal Poodle

Denver’s hard rock and metal-inspired tavern is home to tasty eats and mean drinks. But this isn’t your ordinary bar food. Where else will you find Chicken & Waffles, Pho and Surf & Turf Chile Rellenos on the same menu? The aforementioned 2Step: Chicken & Waffles boasts a Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread Waffle, Hand-Battered Chicken Breast and Sriracha Maple Syrup. Need we say more?
Munchies Tip* Not to be neglected are the Brutal Signature Macs. The Hot Box Mac includes Cavatappi Pasta, Four Cheese Sauce, Smoked Brisket, Smokey Fried Onion Straws and House BBQ Sauces. “For those about to rock, we salute you!”
Chicken Rebel

From food truck parked at Finn’s Manor to food stall at Avanti Food & Beverage to brick and mortar on Tejon St, Chicken Rebel has been a popular choice amongst Denver foodies for years. Their piled-high sandwiches guarantee at least five or six napkins from its conqueror, though we guarantee you’ll be craving their perfectly crispy, fried chicken for weeks on end. The Colorado Sandwich stuffs a Green Chile inside the fried bird, with Cream Cheese, Jalapeno and Bacon. Drool-inducing.
Munchies Tip* You can’t leave Chicken Rebel without an order of one of their Signature Tater Tots. American Cheese, Caramelized Onions, and Rebel Sauce top the Rebel Tots, which unquestionably have our stamp of approval.
