Congrats on being named Yelp’s first-ever Taco Trailblazer. Tell us what’s your favorite taco spot or type of taco?
It’s a toss-up! I love a traditional, simple taco with fresh ingredients like a tortilla, protein, onions and cilantro. I also love unique tacos loaded with everything. One of my favorite tacos is called the “Tacodilla,” from one of my favorite taco places, The Pass Kitchen. It’s made with toasted flour, chicken tinga, queso, crispy corn shell, sweet plantains, avocado, pico de gallo, chicken consomme and garlic aioli on the side. This taco is huge, and each bite is an explosion of flavor in every bite.
What makes a 5-star taco?
The best taco is when all of its ingredients complement each other well. Whether it’s a simple taco or one that is loaded, a 5-star taco is one you just cannot put down. When you take a bite and taste well-seasoned meat and some heat, but also cool elements like lettuce or sour cream.
You’ve got your taco – what drink and sides are you spicing up your meal with?
I love a side of queso and fresh guacamole. You may even see me adding fresh guac to my tacos. To drink, I think a margarita is the perfect drink to go with tacos!
What’s one taco spot you’re excited to try as the Taco Trailblazer?
Taco Nazo in California. I’ve heard the west coast has great tacos and this spot looks like it has an amazing fish taco, which is one of my favorites. Between the crispy fish and the salsa on top, I’m sure it will be the perfect bite.
What is one city you think should be on every taco lover’s list?
My city: Orlando! We have a great food scene here. There are a ton of great taco spots here, such as The Pass Kitchen, Mx Taco, Quesa Loco and El Molcajete.
In addition to being our Yelp Taco Trailblazer, you’re also an Elite. What’s one thing you think everyone should know about the Yelp Community?
I love being a Yelp Elite! The Yelp community is so supportive of local businesses. I’ve been introduced to so many small businesses through the many Yelp Elite events that I’ve attended. It’s nice to meet the owners of these businesses and hear their stories. I love taking photos and videos of these spots, with the hope that others will support local and check these businesses out themselves!
Let’s settle a debate — hard shell or soft shell?
I have to go with a soft shell. It holds the ingredients better as you eat the taco. With a hard shell, one bite can send everything to the plate.
