Welcome to Meet The Elite, where we let you in on the lives of some of our top community members. Aside from being the most authentic, social, and influential members of the Yelp community, Elites set the standard for what Yelp’s all about – having a passion for local businesses and sharing that love and knowledge with others.
Today we meet Shila B, an Elite since 2012 who is famous for her prolific reviewing, and her fantastic and ever-changing hair colour! Always bubbly and up for anything, Shila loves Batman, eating, and her mom’s meat curry!
What’s your favourite Yelp memory?
The Food Cart Festival both this and last year.
What inspires you to keep writing reviews?
Food. As long as there is good food and awesome events in Vancouver, or any city that I travel to, then I am inspired to write. I am also inspired to write based on my own adventures that I create.
What’s your favourite best kept secret in Vancouver?
Lupii Cafe in Champlain Heights.
What are you an expert on?
A chicken and waffles dance that I made up, writing about music, baking, and playing guitar.
Why did you start Yelping?
I wanted everyone to read about my food adventures and read about awesome eats in Vancouver. I wanted to promote a food scene that often gets overshadowed by either Portland or Seattle. I also wanted tourists to know that the best places aren’t necessarily the common tourist trapsfound in magazines.
Why should someone visit Vancouver?
We have an awesome food scene and there is always an establishment opening every month!
Describe your ideal day in Vancouver:
Taking the train to a location and walking 10 blocks in either direction and just discovering stores. I don’t have an iPhone so it’s all eyes in my environment all the time, and living in the moment when at eateries. I like sitting at cafes and working on my crafts and zines.

About the Yelp Elite Squad: The Yelp Elite Squad is our way of recognizing people who are active in the Yelp community – people who are role models both on and off the site. Elite-worthiness is based on a number of things, including well-written reviews, high quality tips, a detailed personal profile, an active voting and complimenting record, and a history of playing well with others. Elites must use their real name on their account, have a real (and clear!) profile photo, and be of legal drinking age in their country. You can read more, and even nominate yourself at yelp.com/elite
