It’s been awesome getting to know Offer’s big brain and dry humour since he became a kickass Montreal Yelper, so we were excited to get to pick those brains about how he got into Yelp, and to learn some of his favourite finds around the city. Check it out!
Yelp Montreal: Why do you Yelp?
Offer R: I started Yelping because I love writing, food, and sharing helpful information. But more than that, I now adore the Montreal Yelp community so much! Yelping connects me to all of these wonderful people and gives me a sense of belonging in a big city where it’s sometimes hard to find that community vibe.
Secondly, I do want to change people’s perception of food and get them to go to places they never thought they’d go for whatever reasons: stereotypes, preconception, hole in the walls, etc. So that’s why I Yelp. I push people to be more curious and develop a better palate so we can have better food.
If you had to pick only 3 places to eat in Montreal for the rest of your life, where would it be? What makes these places special for you?
Angela’s Pizzeria: My very first place I went to eat when I arrived to Montreal. Therefore it has a great nostalgic feeling to it and their pizzas are outstanding!
Rustique: Their pies are comforting, delectable, and very well made. Very kind staff, as well!
Sammi’s Dumplings: Their dumplings bring a great level of memories of my trip to China in 2001. They taste exactly the same as when I first fell in love with them during my trip. Dumplings are a great example of how simple and comforting foods often taste the best!
What made you get into your favorite hobby?
My favourite hobby is photography. I became very much into it so I can always have good memories of Montreal and to show the beautiful city and delicious food!
What do you love about Montreal?
The great level of multi-cultural foods that we have, how many of them are truly authentic and delicious. Also, the variety of ingredients you can purchase at the markets or little spice stores. Aside from the potholes, and long bitterly cold winters… Oh, and the high taxes… It’s a beautiful and wonderful city!
