Welcome to Meet The Elite, where we let you in on the lives of some of our top community members. Today we meet Ebbie P, a Yelp Elite since ’14, and queen of the food truck and winery scene in ROC. Here’s Ebbie’s take on what it means to be a Yelper.
Why is it “Sweet to be Elite”?
The sweetest part about being Elite is definitely the exclusive events — especially when the RSVP includes a plus one. It’s a great way to introduce newbies to the Elite community and show them why you Yelp so much. Meeting like-minded folks is the icing on the cake. These special connections allow me to stay in the loop.
What’s your favorite Yelp memory?
Our community manager Breanna does a remarkable job with all the creative events in Rochester. One that comes to mind is Yelp’s Fall Bucket List: Favo Pizza Making 101! Besides learning to make delicious pizza, we had a contest that had everyone in great spirits, accompanied by craft beer, wine, and a side of flour clouds. Other favorites include International Supper Club and Yelp’s First Taste events. I love when I get to meet new faces and talk about all the awesomeness that is food, wine, and Yelp.
What’s your favorite local biz?
I have currently been partial to a new business on the South Wedge block. You can find me defending my Yelp Duchess crown on a weekly basis at The Playhouse Swillburger. Amazing greasy food that doesn’t feel like junk + talented mixologists + an outstanding draft beer list + vintage arcade games = A melting pot of happiness!
What’s your dream Yelp event?
My dream Yelp event would include a trip to the Finger Lakes wine country. Sure, we can get in our vehicles and hit the road anytime, but something about sharing these experiences with Yelpers would be amazing. Getting to know the winemakers, touring facilities, barrel tasting, or lending a hand during harvest would be everything. If that isn’t enough, add a hike in Watkins Glen for good measure.
Why should someone visit Rochester?
There’s so much culture and diversity that shouldn’t be overlooked. Food trends may be a couple of years delayed, but you can’t find better chicken wings outside of our area. We are not just Garbage Plates™, but also known for reputable bars and restaurants. Rochester Public Market is an amazing experience on Saturdays. You can get a pick-me-up beverage from any of the unique shops before starting your produce shopping adventure. I would recommend adding a chocolate pistachio croissant from Flour City Bread Company, then head to Railroad Street for a beer tasting at Rohrbach Beer Hall & Brewery, or have the spiciest bloody Mary in town at Black Button Distilling.
We are also very lucky to have imaginative and talented people that keep the city evolving. From beautiful parks and museums, to inspiring murals, our city is filled with stuff to do, including events at the Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester Museum and Science Center, Eastman School of Music, our very own craft beer trail, WALL\THERAPY murals, and an endless list of festivals happening throughout the year. There’s so much I have yet to explore myself!
About the Yelp Elite Squad: The Yelp Elite Squad is our way of recognizing people who are active in the Yelp community – people who are role models both on and off the site. Elite-worthiness is based on a number of things, including well-written reviews, high quality tips, a detailed personal profile, an active voting and complimenting record, and a history of playing well with others. Elites must use their real name on their account, have a real (and clear!) profile photo, and be of legal drinking age in their country. You can read more, and even nominate yourself at yelp.com/elite
