Think your Sunday was chill? The Elite Yelpers of the MD Burbs think they've got you had. Invited to the first out-of-airport Vino Volo location in Bethesda, Yelpers were wined and dined while they competed in an epic wine blending competition at Yelp's Vino & Vinyl. All of this crazy fun happened to the tunes of yesterday's classic hits on vinyl: Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, Whitney Houston, The Cars, Fleetwood Mac, and much more.
Vino Volo really laid out the red carpet for these Elites. Three stations set up around the restaurant allowed Yelpers to get a taste of special selections of rosé, white, and red wines picked by the wine experts at Vino Volo. Nikkia G admits: "Wine is a food group for me so of course I was ecstatic that this month's Elite event was at a wine bar! Really enjoyed the different wine flights. Hands up for New Zealand." Groups of six were invited back into the special private dining room to get instruction and compete in wine blending. Yelpers even designed their own wine label and winery name while adding the perfect proportions of Boxwood wine into graduated cylinders (just like professional wine blenders).
All of this fun was flanked by absolutely delicious bites of charcuterie, cheese, lettuce wraps, and Vino Volo's signature roasted Marcona almonds with rosemary & sea salt. The pork tacos were extremely tender and the desert "Torta Della Nonna" left everyone licking plates. Starr C professes "the lemon torta that came out at the end right as I was getting ready to head out was AH-MAZING, and I'm so glad I didn't leave any sooner."
Photo In A Box was there to teleport Elites to the Sonoma Countryside with their awesome green screen and substantial amount of props and costumes to play with! Yelper's donned giant moustaches, bright pink glasses, crazy hats, and of course a giant wine bottle while being transported to lush vineyards.
As the wine filled afternoon finished up, prizes were given to the competing teams for best blend and best vineyard art work. Best blend going to the ".5 Winery" and best label going to "Quiet Storm Winery."
