Adorned with feathered masks, beads, and a whole lotta
festive cheer, Harford’s Elite Squad celebrated Mardi Gras early with a
masquerade bash at Black Eyed Sally’s. Since they couldn’t wait for Fat
Tuesday, Yelpers partied Nawlins style on Thursday night with a spread of Cajun dishes, Munson’s Truffle Stout from Thomas Hooker Brewing and
delectable King Cakes from La Petite France Bakery. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
recalls “We walk in, and we're immediately transported from cold
Hartford to a café on the bayou.” And that’s nothin’ compared to the food! “The
catfish strips with remoulade sauce were off the chart.” Eric H adored the gumbo with “chicken,
crawfish, and andouille sausage in a spicy stew. It was thick and hearty
and definitely had a nice kick to it.” And don’t get him started on the pulled
pork sliders “garnished with fantastic slaw,” so tasty that he “contemplated
asking the staff for a giant bowl that I could dunk my head into.” Hey, we
won’t judge – anything goes on Mardi Gras!
From the red beans and rice to the cornbread with honey
butter and traditional almond cream filled King Cake from La Petite France, we
were a well-fed bunch! Still, a party isn’t a party without some quality booze.
Alfred F’s “wife fell in love with the Hooker Munson’s Truffle brew, and we're
sure to make the trip to the brewery soon to get us a Growler!” Going for a
more traditional sip of Mardi Gras, Eric A “ enjoyed the bartenders' Hurricane
sampler, which was pretty potent even in a shot glass.”
