Madison Is Bound For Bloom

Madison Elites spent a cozy night in cookie heaven at Bloom Bindery on September 19, 2018 to celebrate the last days of summer. Twenty-five members of the Yelp Elite Squad had the opportunity to check out Bloom’s new concept of cookie sandwiches paired with a range of enticing books to ultimately benefit literacy efforts in our community through their b-corp bottom line.

As guests arrived, they were welcomed with their choice of hot drink to ward off the incoming autumn chill. Chai, espresso, tea, and coffee were all up for grabs and served in an array of hand-warming mugs. Each beverage was made to order and gave guests something to sip on while they heard a little bit more about Bloom Bindery’s story.

Once everyone was cozied up with their drinks, owner Annemarie Maitri shared the evolution of the shop from a full-service bakery that outgrew the space to a complete re-conception as a cookie-fueled community gathering space that would spread the love of books and support literacy. Bloom Bindery is a laptop-free zone that encourages people to chat with one another, get lost in a book, and engage with the offline world. They collect books to share with the community, and, as a certified B corporation, contribute two percent of their bottom line to various literacy-based efforts. Also on hand was Morgan from Mystery to Me, the local bookstore that curates the selection of books that rotate about monthly through the shelves at Bloom Bindery.

To close out the evening, attendees split into two groups to take turns ordering custom ice cream sandwiches and decorating iced cookies to take home for later. Bloom Bindery worked with Sassy Cow Creamery to create custom ice cream just for the shop in two classic flavors – chocolate and vanilla. For cookie choice, guests could mix and match as they pleased from a wide selection of treats baked fresh just before the event. Some of the available cookies included Door County cherry chocolate chip, brown butter chocolate chip, carnival, lemon shortbread, and thin mint. To finish off their creations, guests could choose from a range of house-made toppings like caramel, sprinkles, and candied pecans. Vegan and gluten-free options are also always readily available, including vegan ice cream to fill the cookie sandwiches.

Reflecting Bloom Bindery’s mission to support literacy, the Yelp Elite Squad came together to donate several boxes of books for Madison Reading Project. Everyone in attendance went home with a goodie bag that included metal feather bookmarks and some fun Yelp goodies.
