Foodies, college students, even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…
it seems everyone (reptiles included) can get around the idea of putting back
perfection in pizza form! This month Yelp Elites gathered on State street for a
sampling of the wacky discs that Ian’s is known for here in Madison, Milwaukee and
around the country at Heroes In A Half Shell (Pizza Power)! (Remember in middle school when you ended a year with a rad pizza party? This was sort of like that… without the annoying adult supervision or clean-up afterwards before the buses lined up.) Cowabunga dudes!
Rebecca L insists, "Ian's sure is creative: Lasagna on a pizza? Nacho pizza? (Surprisingly tasty!) Mac
and cheese pizza? So much pizza! I'm pretty sure they can turn any of
your favorite dishes into a pizza topping," and because their ginormous slices were square cut, everyone had a chance to experience the crazy combos that set these guys aside. Jae C used the evening as a way to rave about the rad-ness: "Pizza choices were definitely something we bragged about to friends
afterwards. The pulled pork pizza was amazing as well as the taco pizza." Timothy L adds, "I can honestly say that after tasting so many new choices at
this event, my late night Ian's pizza choice has become that much
And what's a pizza party without a few fun additions? Hooks Cheese cubed up everyones' favorite cheddar, Sprecher's Craft Soda was on hand to help folks wash things down with something fun and fizzy and Lexie G gabs about Calliope's Hot Peanut Butter Ice
cream. "Holy cow. I was not expecting that. I love peanut butter. Funny, I
adore hot sauce too. And wow, I am fascinated by ice cream. Put those
three together? Mind blown!"
Helping folks look the pizza party part, Dawn of Glitter
to Gore painted peeps with pizzas, ninja turtles, masks in the color of folks’
favorite hero in a half shell, even the Yelp logo! Joe and Tim of ActionBooth
in Chicago got guests off the ground in their ninja inspired photo-booth that
had Bobb S squealin’ “how much fun can a person have with toy weaponry and a
high speed camera? A lot!” Our evening ended with a little after hours performance on a piano across the street at The Ivory Room. While folks sipped some signature cocktails, Josh Dupont took audience suggestions and wailed away on pop, rock, even hip-hop favorites!
Thanks to Adam May and the entire Ian's team for welcoming us into your space and sampling some awe-ZA-m squares! Thanks also to Ian for popping in before going home to your new baby! (Congrats to the fam!) Thanks also to Brian at Hooks, Ryan at Sprechers and Staci at Calliope for coming out to share your crazy good consumables with our group and to Jack at The Ivory Room for quenching our thirst after Ian's with some cool cocktails. Mad props to Dawn at Glitter To Gore and Joe and Tim at ActionBooth for adding a dose of fun, and to Jen of Jen Dederich Photography for capturing some stills!
