On Monday, members of the Elite squad had a culture clash like never before at Viva Tokyo. As these folks arrived, they were greeted with a little social lubricant: passion fruit margaritas, sangria or Sapporo. Tables were set with the perfect appetizer – guacamole, as well as chips and salsa. The carefully constructed menu took us on a culinary adventure between the two countries, as guests sampled hybrid dishes such as the delicious Mar Y Tierra roll and the incredible Tempura Shrimp Tacos.
Eight waves of dishes rolled out from the kitchen: Mae’s Special Salad, Tempura Shrimp Tacos, Steak Burritos, JB Rolls, Mar Y Tierra, Miami Heat, Chicken Teriyaki and Tempera Banana.
One of the favorites of the night was Mae’s Special Salad, with marinated seaweed, mixed with chopped tuna and sesame oil with honey kimchee sauce. The Tempura Shrimp Tacos with tempura shrimp topped with red cabbage, with wasabi guacamole and spicy mayo on corn tortillas was a huge hit too!
We ended the night on a sweet note with Tempura Banana, which featured battered and fried bananas with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup.
