There are few things better than some Sunday funday with fellow Yelpers, right? South Bay and Peninsula Elites were treated to some afternoon delight at our last YEE, Here's Looking at You Kid @ Morocco's Mountain View. To compliment the restaurant's menu and décor, the event had a Casablanca theme. So Elites showed up in their finest black and white attire, ready for a classy good time.
As guests showed up to the party and checked in with the Yelp staff, Sham, the owner of Morocco's, greeted everyone and personally guided them into the restaurant. Inside there were endless carafes of house sangria alongside Sunset Cellar's Barbera wine and a variety of international beers. "I never drink sangria, but if that's what sangria tastes like, then I'm a fan! It's made with high quality wines and liquor. I said it wasn't strong enough for me, but he said that it was 15% alcohol. That's pretty good! Would have drank a whole caraffe if I could have," said Viet N.
Of course there was food! Lots of it! Chef Jay, Sham's brother and Co-Owner, cooked up a variety of Moroccan light bites for the event. Guest favorites included birwats (meaty and vegetarian), traditional Moroccan meatballs, cold eggplant salad with cucumber, potato and beet salad, fish tagine and chicken kebabs. Yun C was very impressed with the spread: "It was great to learn about the food because then I will know what to order! Love, love love the cold eggplant salad and the cucumber! They were very refreshing!! The fish tagine was out of this world, it was not fishy at all and very flavorful."
Because Morocco's is all about the good food *and* having a fun time while there, they brought two magicians to the event and James N couldn't get enough of it: "Magicians including both Xanger and MagicBeard both showed some awesome tricks and also explained to us the weekly scheduled entertainments for Morocco's." And just in case there wasn't enough going on, Yelp also offered a black and white quiz (Ex: What is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave also known) with winners receiving a free pass to Downtown Ice in San Jose!
Owner Sham also addressed the crowd before the party ended, introduced the staff and explained how they're trying to make changes to the business, based on feedback from Yelp reviews. He also told Elites that his goal is to have an overall 4-star rating before the end of 2012! Based on the feedback from South Bay and Peninsula Elite attendees, this shouldn't be an issue 🙂
Until our next Elite Event, Cheersies!
