On Tuesday night, 250+ Yelpers smuggled their way into The Russian Lady to celebrate the roaring 20’s at Yelp’s Prohibition Party. Sheiks and shebas, molls and mobsters, flappers and fine fellas all came dressed to the nines, flaunting fedoras, feathers and fine suits like Hartford’s never seen before. Best of all, thanks to generous donations, the event raised $2,000 for the Hartford Preservation Alliance!
The Green Jazz Band set the musical mood with their energetic swing and soulful blues, while guests surveyed the scene for some hooch. Luckily, local favorite Onyx Spirits was on hand with bees knees cocktails and moonshine from their authentic prohibition recipe. Batch 19 poured their 20’s-era brew while Olde Burnside Brewing got everyone hooked on Ten Penny Ale. Meanwhile, Westford Hill Distillers dazzled the crowd with locally distilled fruit brandies, Cupcake Wines with a variety of vinos, and Peel Liquors with their limoncello. “Being Italian, I have high standards for my limoncello and this totally met the mark!” gushed Lindsay S.
And then there was the food. An abundance of treats flowed from The Tavern Downtown, including build-your-own bruschetta, meaty wings, and spinach and feta bites. Agave Grill served their famous empanadas alongside Wood-N-Tap’s decadent fried mac & cheese bites. After stopping at Froyoword’s table, Adrianne J was blown away by Frookies in “four delicious flavors!" Not to mention the “froyo cookie sandwich was bigger then the palm of my hand.” Concluding the spread, NoRa Cupcake won the crowd over with a tower of mini cupcakes – some made with moonshine!
Hartford Underground charmed our flappers and fellas with some amazing swing moves, making us all envy their handle on the Charleston and Lindy Hop. Mario N thought the “dancers really made the night interactive and fun,” and then came the burlesque! Hartford’s own Beat City Beauties enticed the crowd with their sassy, sultry moves and one memorable show. Capturing all the fun, Nick Caito snapped away and Avon MotoPhoto drew Freesia S into their booth “complete with silly feather boas and moustaches – it was a blast!”
According to Anthony P: “This goes down in the books in Hartford, ladies and gentlemen, as the BEST, yes, the BEST Yelp event that has happened.”
An enthusiastic THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and participants, especially The Russian Lady for hosting such a fabulous party. And thank you to everyone who donated to the Hartford Preservation Alliance! Take a peek at the full gallery of gams and giggles, and surely you must read the reviews for the five-star shindig!
