As Saturday mornings go, a private tour of one of Manchester’s finest independent breweries ranks fairly highly in our book. Add to that then, great beer, great food and of course great company and you’re on to a winner.
That is exactly what happened for Yelp Manchester and 15 lucky guests as we headed down to Runaway Brewery for a behind the scenes look at their operation before they opened for GRUB Food Fair.
The day started with a quick introduction from master brewer Mark, taking us through Runaway’s brief history to the current day. Throughout the tour our guests sampled some of Runway’s finest brews, starting with a delightful Pale Ale – the favourite of many. Pale Ale down and more interesting talk from Mark, a crisp, refreshing Wheat Beer was served up to the beer-thirsty guests.
2 beers in, it was time to get up and take a closer look around the brewery itself. Mark led us behind the bar to the brewing area. The area showed just how well-oiled a brewing machine Runaway really is, utilising space and equipment to maximum effect.
Back at our seats it was time for our final brew, a Victorian Brown Stout, a beer that packs so much flavour into each mouthful. And with that, our tour was done, just in time then for GRUB Food Fair to open up and for us to go and stuff our faces with fine street food!
It was clear to see the sheer passion Mark and his team have for brewing the right way and the proof as they say is in the pudding, or the beer, the proof is in the beer. A massive thank you to Mark & The Runaway team for putting on a fantastic tour and providing a unique insight into the life of a brewer.
If you haven’t already checked out GRUB @ Runaway Brewery, make sure you don’t miss their next collaboration – Saturday 16th July.
