I don't know about you, but I know what it means to miss New Orleans. Thankfully, Catfish is here in Brooklyn, and all it takes is one visit to see that this laid-back joint perfectly captures that vibe of welcoming, good people, and of course great food and drink. Last night, Maxx, Aaron & Luke — the good friends behind this amazing Crown Heights spot — welcomed back the Yelp Elite Squad for another kickass evening. Check out the photos and the reviews to hear all about this moustache party at one of my favorite places in Brooklyn, and read on if you think you can handle that much Cajun deliciousness.
In honor of Movember, we broke out the 'staches and got to partying. The only downside of the night could've been whiskers getting in the way of all the tasty treats coming out of the kitchen. Michelle W was smart enough to remove hers "before tearing down the tangiest, betcha-can't-just-have-one deviled egg after deviled egg" and the "deliciously sweet and crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside cornbread."
Ingrid S was partial to the "Mushrooms Veronique…a button mushroom stuffed with a boursin like cream cheese submerged around a green grape. I thought it was an olive until I tasted sweet. This is absolutely genius." With andouille sausage crostinis, boudin balls and more, everyone got a sense of the fantastic flavors Catfish's kitchen is working with!
Most folks know it's great to grab a pint at this Bedford Ave hotspot, especially if you're into Abita. Catfish always has at least a few brews from this Louisiana brewery, and Yuriy B is definitely heading back for their Pecan and the IPA as well. No proper party is complete without a cocktail or two, and the Catfish bartenders were mixing up New Orleans originals like the Sazerac and the Hurricane. Reana K was unfazed by a slight wait because, "Beauty takes time folks, its the truth. Those hurricanes have got to be the best ones north of the Mason Dixon, NOLA would be proud!"
As Cassidy P purports, this is such a "Great venue! The ambiance & people at Catfish are warm and inviting and the food delicious…they worked their butts off behind the bar–and did it with a smile and a 'What can I get you, hon?' I'd never been to Catfish before and will definitely be back." See you there Cassidy!
Obviously, anytime you end up at Catfish is a good time to celebrate, so make sure you swing through for some good times! A huge thanks to Maxx, Luke & Aaron and the rest of the amazing and accommodating Catfish staff for welcoming us with open arms. And another thank you goes out to everyone that donated; we raised nearly $300 for Movember, and every little bit helps. Whether or not you made it out, make sure to check out the reviews of the event, the photos from the lovely Liz Clayman, and what folks are saying all over.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
