Our third annual block party in Sacramento's Handle District pushed new limits of epicness! Over 2000 yelpers braved record-high temperatures to enjoy a closed-off city block's worth of free bites, drinks and entertainment. A whopping 43 vendors, many from the district itself, showed off their goods. Local restaurants competed in a "Yelper's Choice Award" and "Judge's Choice" determined by some of the areas most respected foodies and hosted by Laura McIntosh of the award winning PBS series "Bringing it Home." Each restaurant's dish reflected their commitment to farm-fresh ingredients, much of which was provided by our produce partner, Trinity Fresh. But it wasn't just about food. Adult beverages included a dozen Lodi wineries, generous pours of Espolon tequila margaritas and Coors Light, Blue Moon and Crispin Cider. Entertainment came in the form of juggling, dueling pianos, massages, rock music and henna tattoos. Most satisfying was knowing that all donations at the door went to St. John's Program for Real Change. In total, $10,000 was raised for the cause!
