National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day is August 4th. But why celebrate for one day when you can celebrate for an entire week?! Recently, the local Yelp Elite Squad were treated with a pair of sourdough fermented, salted, dark chocolate chip cookies by Onggi in Portland, ME!
Onggi – named after the ubiquitous Korean fermentation vessel – is a new neighborhood spot in Portland’s repurposed shipping containers on Washington Ave. They focus on delicious small-batch ferments from their favorite (and mostly local) makers. Owners Amy Ng, Erin Zobitz, and Marcus Im Onggi in order to create a destination that’d make the cultures of fermentation more approachable and fun. Elite Jill I wrote about her experience that this was the, “best chocolate chip cookie ever! We have been looking for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe for a couple years now, I thought I had found it… until I tried this one. These cookies were amazing. Crispy, chewy, chocolatey, a little sea salt on top it is now my favorite cookie. The cold brew coffee was excellent as well. I will be sure to make this a detour on my way in and out of town.”
