A lot of delicious and fun things are happening in Freeport, Maine like Athena’s Cantina: a small restaurant serving up big flavors that opened just three weeks before the pandemic hit. Two and a half years later not only do they have brick and mortar, but a food truck as well (and a cafe coming soon too)! The local Yelp Elite Squad recently visited to enjoy #TacoTuesday every day…
Both the S.O. and I have been sold as official fans. The S.O. even placed their tacos as top 3 in the state (his three are unranked). The tacos have a crema and avocado drizzle that were soooo good, but I think the star of the tacos were definitely the meats. They were so juicy and tender, I was impressed — legitimate tacos you would find on the streets of Mexico with a little twist. The best was the carnitas all the way.Sarah C, Yelp Elite
I ordered a chicken burrito, and we also got sweet potato tacos, chicken taco, cheese quesadilla, and chips and salsa. To quote my kids, this place SLAPS. And slaps hard! We couldn’t wait to dig in, so we dove right in as soon as we got back in the car… My burrito was hefty. I don’t mess with small burritos. If your burrito doesn’t require two hands, a stack of napkins, and doesn’t scare toddlers, I don’t want it. This burrito checked all the boxes… Will I be back? Oh heck yeah. Will it be soon? For sure.Karac N, Yelp Elite
