Yelp’s Culinary Connection is a month-long event series featuring businesses who have made an impact on Rochester’s evolving food scene. These exclusive and intimate events are a platform for local chefs and restaurant owners to share their story — how they got their start, what inspires their menu, and why they do what they do for our community, along with curated tastings.
Our 4th iteration of our Culinary Connection series introduced the community to Nosh. The beautiful thing about the Nosh team is, as they call it “ownership by committee” — the kitchen staff, managers, owners, marketing team all crossed paths in some way over the years and have come back to working together there. They built their team through the connections they had in the community as they were introduced by someone who knows someone. It works because there’s trust and respect across the board. As chef Joe Zolnierowski explained, he hand selected his kitchen staff for the passion they had for cooking and created a team of equals that would be committed through the highs and lows.
Q: What sets Nosh’s menu apart from the rest?
A: I like hands on food — play with it, change the direction you want to go… I incorporate texture in my dishes — salty, crunchy, creamy, sweet, bitter, fresh. One of the definitions of “nosh” is to eat enthusiastically — I love that— we wanted to bring that to the table with our restaurant.
Nosh will be celebrating their one-year anniversary in July and their summer menu is around the corner, featuring a host of flavorful dishes and refreshing cocktails.
