Elites and their guests were treated to early entry to Chroma, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art‘s new immersive color experience. On Friday, April 27th, 2018, Yelpers explored multiple levels of the museum while checking each color off their list.
The color circuit kicked off in the red lobby, where attendees could play a giant game of tic-tac-toe, create their own stamp art, make their mark on the Chroma Frieze, and lounge in comfort under the stairs after dancing to DJay Mando.
Next up was green and purple in living color. Viewers feasted their eyes on a neon “Tropicalia,” immersed themselves in a green screen environment, and observed art being made through body painting, fluid painting, and by seeing a mesh room come to life with a floral pattern painted by purple-body-suited artists in the walls.
Several colors came together in lecture hall where one could take respite from the sensory overload and enjoy calming aromatherapy, video art, and a chill soundtrack from DJ Glynis. Elites and their guests also met here to check in with each other and get brown-paper-wrapped packages containing rainbow bead necklaces to trade in an attempt to create their own rainbow.
After a refresh, it was off to the Henry Gallery to submerge themselves in orange. Queer Pressure Collective kept the energy high with their danceable jams, and a blanket fort was just off the dance floor if one needed to catch their breath. An orange lace photo booth made for perfect selfies, and energetic bikers could hop on a stationary bike to help illuminate the night.
Yelpers next ascended the stairs in the main lobby to explore the cool blue of sky-high string art and to step in to a game of masks and dice and coded messages. Around the corner was blue’s compliment yellow and a mind-bending room named #nofilter. The warm yellow light sucked all the color of the room, making everyone appear as if they were in a sepia-print photo. Miniature flashlights lit the way to reveal the secret colors and messages lurking right before everyone’s eyes.
