On Wednesday, June 13, at 6pm, around 20 Chicago Yelp Elites met up at the new Pink Taco in River North for an intimate demonstration on how to make the best guacamole, drank never-ending margaritas, and competed in not one, but two contests to win gifts from the restaurant.
Pink Taco opened its first Chicago location only a few months ago, but its colorful charm is already winning the hearts of anyone who stops in. Elites were greeted with house margaritas as they entered by their fabulous waitress, Francesca, before mingling and catching up with other Elites and Community Manager Anna K. Soon, the jovial group would begin competing to make the best guacamole for the prize of a $100 gift card to Pink Taco!
At 6:30, Chef Angelo Chavez met the group and gathered everyone around a table decorated with a pink bandanna runner and topped with all of the ingredients one could ever want to find in guacamole. Chef Angelo gave the history of Pink Taco, demonstrated how he makes his ideal guacamole, and gave some tips on how one can perfect their own. The most sacred tip of the night? You can probably never put too much salt in your guac, and if for some reason you do, there’s always a way to balance it out.
After the demonstration came the long-awaited moment of the night: Everyone took Chef Angelo’s tips, along with an array of ingredients on the table including onions, tomatoes, and even pomegranate seeds, to make the best guac they could possibly create. Whoever Chef Angelo chose would be gifted that coveted $100 gift card to Pink Taco.
It was at that moment that Elites were also surprised with news that Pink Taco was hosting a social media contest for the event as well: The best photo of the night with the hashtag #YelpRocksTheGuac would win some Pink Taco swag. With only 20 people and two chances to win big in contests, stakes were high!
After testing everyone’s guac everyone waited with baited breath while Chef Angelo carefully chose a winner. From spicy to nutty to pomegranate-y, he ultimately chose Gary R‘s creation! Of, course everyone lined up to try it after Gary was crowned star of the show.
Marcela Serna Photography was our photographer for the evening, and while she captured everyone’s delight in crafting some amazing guac, quite a bit of entries also rolled in for the social media contest from Elites on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. By 7:45 we had chosen a winner for a Pink Taco hat and shirt. An adorable group photo was chosen, taken by Jacqueline F!
Pink Taco may be new to Chicago, but it’s already found a few fans in the Elite Squad. Some even showed up early and then stayed late for dinner inside!
Thank you so much to Pink Taco for a fantastic evening with a lot of energy and fantastic margaritas.
