It's no secret that Brooklyn Brine has been turning out some of NYC's finest pickles for quite some time. Lesser known, if only because it is under a year old, is Brooklyn Brine owner Shamus Jones's collaboration with Chef Neal Harden and the fine folks at Dogfish Head Craft Brewery: The Pickle Shack. To call this 4th Ave eatery a vegetarian spot is accurate but almost unnecessary, because their absolutely excellent and flavorful menu can be (and is) enjoyed by omnivores and vegans alike. Last night, some of Brooklyn's finest yelpers spent a delicious evening in the beautiful backyard downing Dogfish Head and sampling, among other things, the best fried pickles around. Check out the reviews and the photos from the event here, and read on for more fun.
It wouldn't be a Pickle Shack soiree without some Dogfish Head on tap! They always have more than a few brews from the Delaware brewery featured, and last night was no different. Matteo R "particularly enjoyed the Festina Peche (a Berliner Weisse-style beer; extremely refreshing and with a fantastic tart finish), but the pumpkin ale was also really nice." The staff even poured some of the Firefly Pale Ale that we'll all miss when summer ends; "How awesome is that?!"
It's unsurprising that these beers paired so well with the fare. The aforementioned fried hop pickles are definitely a standout, but Ingrid S is all about…basically everything: "Their mushroom pie blew me away. I heard rave reviews on their tofu bahn mi and they didn't lie…but the grilled cheese with juicy over-flowing tomato and basil was gorgeous." Serious talent in the kitchen (Neal & Tim know what they are doing) combined with the freshest product available…it makes for delicious food every time.
A huge thanks to Neal, Shamus, Diego, Julia, Zachary, Tim and the rest of the amazing Pickle Shack staff for welcoming us in for an awesome night. I'd have to agree with Lisa A when she says, "I couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening." I might've had a few too many Punkin Ales last night, and Im sure I told everyone much I love the Pickle Shack, so I'm sure I'll see you all over there soon…especially since they've got their Ancient Ales Dinner coming up…
