Although oftentimes an Elite Event can be a whirlwind of a crowded cocktail party, Monday night offered up a different experience. Piccoli Trattoria, the brand-new, cozy little Italian eatery in the South Slope, opened its doors for an intimate dinner party that had Victor S asking if he could give 8 stars to "the best Yelp Elite Event I've been to. A sit-down dinner that leaves you completely stuffed, festive, with One Hope Wine…"
Andres & Andres, Piccoli's personable and attentive owners, made Brooklyn's best yelpers feel right at home immediately upon walking through the door. After finding their seats, each guest was offered a glass of One Hope Wine. Each of the four varietals sampled is dedicated to a different cause; in addition to being absolutely delicious, an astonishing 50% of One Hope's profits are dedicated to fighting breast cancer, autism, AIDS and more.
Once everyone was settled, the Piccoli kitchen lived up to its reputation, and then some. The grilled marinated calamari was as tender as can be, and the shaved Brussels sprouts salad with marcona almonds had Mariana S begging for the recipe. Yan T would've been content with the mozzarella di bufala and prosciutto platter, but the two-course meal that followed put Piccoli over the top. Yelpers had a choice of homemade pasta for primi, with the pappardelle with honey-braised short rib ragu a tasty favorite, but the goat cheese-scallion ravioli and black spaghetti were at least as loved. Entrees were equally amazing; I was fortunate enough to dig into the double-cut pork chops with cherry peppers, cipollini onions and balsamic vinegar, but those who unwrapped the gift of the striped bass weren't complaining either.
Whether or not you made it out, make sure you check out all the photos (thanks Jane K!) and what people are saying in reviews and on Talk. A huge thanks goes out to Andres and the rest of the Piccoli crew for all their hospitality. And yes, it was all even better than it sounds. If you missed the event or just want to eat all that again, Piccoli is in Park Slope and open for business…see you there someday soon!
