Last Thursday 80 guests comprising of Elites and guests had the opportunity to learn a little more about beer at Fort Lauderdale hot spot Tap 42 for Yelp’s Beer Course Elite Event. Creative Director / Craft Beer Director Lauren Bowen (who should have a PhD in brew) held court as she took questions and offered some insights on all things beer. Fun facts included: Did you know beer is 90% water? Since 1991 the US has been the worlds largest producer of beer. The four ingredients in beer: water, yeast, malt, hops.
The brews on tap were Harpon UFO White which is a Belgian style white ale, Cigar City Maduro Oatmeal Brown which is a brown ale and Lagunitas IPA which is from the West coast. However it wasn’t just about a nice cold pint. The craft beer cocktail of the night was the Mad Apple (Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider, Tito’s Hand-Made Vodka, organic basil, beer simple syrup, grapefruit bitters and raspberries.) As well as the featured craft cocktail of the night: Tea Thyme (EG Earl Grey & Sage vodka, thyme, Dancing Pines Chai, lemon, lavender syrup and orange bitters.)
On top of all the beer knowledge/drinking those in attendance were the very first to try the brand new menu items from chef Andrew Balick. These new plates have yet to be released but all got rave reviews! Included in the offerings were: Black Grouper Ceviche, Goat Cheese Poppers, Milk Stout Short Rib Sliders, Crispy Korean Calamari, Smoked Local Mahi and Maple Bacon Sprouts.
