Boston Elites Swarm Yelp’s VIBee Bash; Get Buzzed!

Boston Yelpers love to get a buzz on, and this week’s was downright biological. No, we don't mean organic lampshades or swinging from the trees; we’re talking bees (sorry birds, not this time)! Cambridge-based apiary and nectar purveyor, Follow the Honey, hosted Yelp’s two-part VIBee Bash last Friday night, and Elite drones swarmed the charming family-owned shop to treat themselves to unique honeys not to be found elsewhere. Lynn J puts it nicely: “Nobody else is going to have white honey made from a volcano!” Take that, spinach dip in a bread bowl! The glittering array of honey samples were paired decadently with Chase Hill Farms cheeses and baskets-full of fluffy Iggy's Bread.

The busy little V.I.Bees entertained themselves by sampling various meads from Green River Ambrosia, getting their learn on next to a live in-store hive, and bee-bopping to MOBTET's irresistible brass beats. Lisa R is a new mead convert, gushing, “Green River Ambrosia completely blew my mind. I now know where the term ‘nectar of the gods’ comes from. And  Barbara A is now a MOBTET groupie, admitting, “who doesn’t love some tuba?” Nobody, that's who.

With all the mead and melodies, everyone worked up quite the appetite, and The Bearded Pig was there with fine fare for all. Their honey jalapeño cornbread “was simply divine,” says Danielle F, while Skye G hovered over the "tender and tasty" pulled pork. As if tubas, bees, meads, and eats weren’t enough, Cambridge's Populist Poet flew by to say hey! Aptly named Toni Bee slammed some poetry on the Nectar Deck, and with many a flowery word, made for one hopping patio scene.

By the end of the night, no one felt the stung – everyone got to fill their jars with Goldenrod Honey on tap to take home. Like that sweet stuff, the five star reviews are flowing in, Talk is all abuzz and Tatsu’s pics are rocking Flickr and Facebook ('Like' Yelp Boston and tag away!). With visuals, edibles and audibles like this, you know the party was the bees' knees.
