Do you know the difference between a "5 AM Saint" and a "Punk IPA"? The Birmingham Yelper's Do! 30 yelpers were invited down John Bright Street for a new level of Beery learnings with BrewDog for Yelp's "Meet the CM" event. With 4 different brews, cheese boards and many excited yelpers it was an evening of Hops, Barley and Yelpy goodness!
Although it's one of the UK's punkiest beer brands, many of the Yelper's had never been to the Birmingham based bar before. Yelper Yadwinder R. summed up the atmosphere nicely, "A Funky, cool and vibrant bar where it's all about the beer."
After being greeted with personalised goodybags, the Yelpers started to learn a little of the ethos and history of the bar through a led tasting with Bec (Just one of BrewDog's beer-sommelier extraordinaires). The first beer, Dead Pony Club, was the light on ABV (in comparison to many of the other BrewDog beers at 3.8%) but big on taste. Although many of the Yelpers (including Lydia B.) admitted they weren't beer drinkers, the refreshing and light taste of this one won them over.
After tasting the lighter side, things got a little more serious when BrewDog's classic, the Punk IPA was bought out. After explaining the Punk ethos (although not just-for-punks attitude), laughs were shared with the Yelpers as the mohawked sporting, Doc Martin wearing punk in the room Dan G. blushed just a little. Despite this, he forgave the quote toting beer leader and remarked that, "Bec was a great tour guide through the beers we tasted and showed a genuine love for the craft and an overwhelming passion for the brand."
The Beer-explorers got a slight reprieve before the next beer with some delicious bread baked with Punk IPA and selections of meat and cheese. Cameron M. loved meeting the Birmingham Community for the first time and commented that the mixing of beer and Yelpers was a great combination. By the time the third beer was presented (the almighty 5am Saint), things were getting very merry indeed!
As the final beer was bought out (and the prize for the quiz had been presented to the fact finding champion Emma S.), the Yelpers experienced a taste of the darker side of BrewDog through the wondeful "Dogwired". At 6.8% ABV, this one was a bit of a blinder and a good one to finish the event off on.
All of the Yelpers found something they enjoyed over the course of the event, even Caroline B. who remarked that the event was "Brilliant fun and a great beer tasting by BrewDog. Very cool venue whether you like beer or not (there's wine on offer), and they care deeply about their craft!"
We couldn't have put it better ourselves. A huge thank you to Dan, Bec and all of the staff at BrewDog for putting on a great spread for Yelp Birmingham's "Meet the CM" event. Not forgetting a big thank you to all of the wonderful Birmingham Yelpers who came along and had a great time.
But don't take our word for it – read what all the yelpers had to say right here, write your own review, have a look at all the photos, talk about it and find Brew Dog on Facebook and Twitter!
Peace Out for now!
