Want to do a Mexican-inspired Sunday Funday? Then you better bring the flavor! Alto Bajo did just that for when they invited Portland’s Yelp Elite squad to ¡Domingo Divertido! This epic fiesta was complete with a taco bar, churro station, and exclusive bottomless beverages. Nobody left hungry, but everybody left vowing to return to this contemporary Mexican hotspot, pronto!
As the Yelpers arrived, they wound through the beautiful Hi-Lo Hotel lobby and into Lo Bar. Here the Alto Bajo staff warmly greeted each guest with their first of many cocktails, a summer spritzer featuring house-made amaro garnished with dried lime wheels. They were excited to learn that it was just one of many new editions to the seasonally-rotating cocktail menu which had just switched over for summer.
Feeling refreshed, the next stop was also the main attraction: a gorgeous and mouthwatering Mexican buffet. At the center sat a whole-roasted pig for cochinita pibil, a signature dish from Alto Bajo’s dinner menu. Served with fresh tortillas, house-made salsas and colorful accompaniments such as watermelon radish and edible flowers, the spread showcased chef Bryant Kryck’s commitment to presenting traditional Mexican flavors with a modern flair. Packed with flavor, the sides were certainly not overshadowed. Guests noted that the guacamole was uniquely complex, and the elotes proved that Mexican street corn clearly deserves its place on an upscale menu.
Somehow managing to find room for more, partygoers made their way to an all-you-can-eat churro station. Though they looked unassuming from the outside, as the Yelpers took their first bites, they were elated to discover that they were stuffed with delicious raspberry jam! Paired with fresh whipped cream and marionberry compote, they perfectly blended the flavors of Mexico and the Pacific Northwest.
Throughout the party, guests were impressed with the expert service they received at Alto Bajo. The friendly staff were always quick to clear a plate, answer a question, or refresh a drink. And refresh drinks they most certainly did! In addition to the outstanding Alto Margarita, the Elites were treated to a smoky mezcal sangria, plus Alto Bajo exclusives like Royale Brewing‘s Rojo Red and Reverend Nat‘s Sidra del Sol hard cider. Whatever their flavor, not a glass went empty at this fiesta!
When nobody could eat another bite or sip another drink, it was time to wrap the party up. But first, general manager Eric Paul invited the guests to partake in a raffle. Lucky winners walked away with prizes like complimentary brunch for two, free bottles of wine, and even a weekend stay at the Hi-Lo Hotel! And to make sure everybody felt like a winner, he treated each Yelp Elite to a certificate for a free dinner entree on their next visit. Whether they exited the party in search of more fiesta or maybe a siesta, each Yelp Elite knew their journey would eventually lead back to Alto Bajo.
