I think I've made a huge mistake.
To be fair, I never made it a secret that Xixa (along with their sister restaurant Traif), that gorgeous, sexy, Mexican-inspired spot on the corner of South 4th & Havemeyer, is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Last night however, when Xixa invited out nearly 100 of my closest friends (AKA the Yelp Brooklyn Elite Squad) to sample their mouthwatering menu…I think we tipped the scales, and now I'm afraid I'll never be able to get a table again.
Because the food and drink at Xixa is that good, and now everyone knows it.
How was I supposed to know that Ken T would find the foie gras al pastor to be "inhumanely delicious"? Who would've thought that Bloss C would have "a religious tequila experience" thanks to the Deconstructed Margarita? Was it a given that Chris D would try and kill Deoroop over bites of "the best food I have had at a yelp event … by far"? Did anyone think that Mike C would swoon for the Mahi Mahi "on one of the best potato chips I've ever tasted in my life", or that Whitney J would dub the grilled elote "THE BEST CARROTS EVER"?
Well, I knew it. (Especially that bit about that grilled carrot elote.) The ever-evolving menu is littered with dishes like guacamole "nam prik num," the 18 hour grilled shortrib, the thai esquites in the tom yum broth and other outside-the-box eats. This creative cuisine is echoing Mexican influences, but pulling out new twists on traditional favorites and incorporating flavors and styles from around the world. As Mea H says, "the food at Xixa is so creative, so delicious" thanks to Chef Jason Marcus, "an artist and an awesome guy." Not to mention, "the staff were also all very friendly and kind and generous."
It's clear that this Mexican-inspired establishment effortlessly blends the best elements of Jason's ability to combine interesting ingredients into brilliantly composed dishes with Heather Heuser's hospitality, which ensures a good time. Heather is the namesake shiksa behind the space, and last night her and her staff were as welcoming as they are every other night of the week. We can't thank Heather, Jason and the rest of the Xixa staff enough for the warm welcome. We certainly appreciate it. I hope I'll see you all again soon…but if not you can catch me on Yelp, or at Xixa begging my girlfriend to let me have some of the foie gras al pastor (it's her favorite, and she's greedy).
