Out of the millions of local businesses on Yelp, many are owned by hard-working ladies. To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 and Women’s History Month this March, we’re calling attention to some of the most amazing local spots in Washington, DC that are run by women. Chaia
Suzanne and Bettina are the co-founders of Chaia Tacos, an unconventional taco shop dishing out insanely delicious, seasonal tacos made entirely with vegetables. They spend time finding and sourcing produce from farms that use sustainable practices so that the food is fresh and best-quality, making their tacos satiating and satisfying to carnivores and vegetarians alike!
What Yelpers Say: Vegetarian tacos? Woman owned? Plenty of vegan options? YES PLEASE! I love this place. I love the creamy kale and potato taco (on the weekends add a fried egg for a little extra texture and protein). The soup is also great: it’s creamy with a chili oil. So comforting and warming in the winter. The green rice with cotija cheese and pepitas is also lovely. – Erin P
Ice Cream Jubilee
Ice Cream Jubilee is a local, made-in-DC business that has won Best Ice Cream in DC five years in a row! Its founder and “chief icecreampreneur,” Victoria Lai, left her government law career to share her ice cream passion with others. With these flavors, she combines her personal heritage and memories with her love of ice cream. What makes Victoria most proud is sharing her business “her parents and friends, and making new friends over ice cream.”
What Yelpers Say: Can’t beat Ice Cream Jubilee to make you go Yippee! Such a wonderful mid-week pick me up treat even despite cold. Victoria, the founder as such a neat story from her family memories of ice cream, her natural passion, and her career journey from a presidential appointee at DHS. Pom Pom
Pom Pom is a woman-led restaurant focusing on fresh ingredients, global flavors, and just pure fun. Their beverage program focuses on curated cocktails and natural, biodynamic, and woman-produced wines.
What Yelpers Say: This place was AMAZING. We came for the female empowerment and will come back for the delicious food and drinks. The wait staff was SO nice–and definitely recommend a reservation because it is TINY. Take Care
Owner Becky Waddell created the Take Care space to allow Washingtonians a chance to slow down and participate in moments of calm and revitalization by offering a spa and retail space with thoughtfully crafted organic, natural and plant-based products for face, body and mind.

The owner, Becky Waddell, provides insightful and heartfelt content, including but not limited to; product recommendations, women empowerment including women in business, local business support and recommendations, makeup tutorials, etc. – Mallory P
Crumbs & Whiskers
Owner Kanchan Singh created Crumbs & Whiskers as a space where District residents can get in touch with their inner animal lover, and to help homeless cats at risk of euthanasia get a second chance.
What Yelpers Say: I adore this establishment. Whether you just want to enjoy a delicious drink and macarons surrounded by cats or you actually want to adopt one, I highly recommend visiting. If you’re just coming to chill with some kitties, that’s cool too – the place is plush, clean and of course, filled with adorable cats of all types, ages and personalities.
