200+ Yelp Elites (& their +1s) came out to Yelp's Art Attack at the gorgeous two-story ING Direct Cafe in Waikiki! Good hearted yeeps participated in Yelp's Backpack Drive for the Aloha United Way and dropped off donations of backpacks and much needed school supplies for Hawaii's homeless keiki.
The evening was a delightful schmorgesbourg of artsy inspiration as Yelp teamed up with RAW Artists Honolulu who brought out 10 passionate local creatives. A fake lash bar by Face art Beauty was a surefire hit with all the ladies and even a few of the fellas. Guests shopped handmade jewelry by Angela Dela Salla and t-shirt designs by Melissa Rivera of Unleash Studio.
Things got fishy with gyotaku art by Brandon T from Proir to Pupu Productions, and painter Chanel Tanaka created a signature geisha inspired piece. Ramon Camarillo got his hands dirty on the pottery wheel, while Mitchell "Smity" Smith carved out a few geckos. On two stages, musical duo Da Push-o-verse made the crowd swoon with their cover tunes, while Deejay Sean til Dawn and Everyday Heroes kept the room poppin'. Comedian Sheila Brown got a few chuckles and beat box man Jason Tom paired himself up with the oustanding skillz of Kalani Basketball Freestyle.
Yeeps got their sweat on with Baja Style Mexican who whipped up bites which delighted Leimalani F and is now her "FAV mexican taco truck! How could we resist truffle quesadillas and pork carnitas burritos (YUM!) with four kinds of salsa? The chile de arbol was FANTASTIC and HOT!" Aye carumba!
Always thirsty yelpers imbibed on coffee drinks from ING Cafe and KAI Vodka cocktails shaken up by the friendly folks from PF Chang's. The amazing team from Aloha Beer was on hand to pour locally brewed draft lager and a Yelp favorite, red ale! Bottoms up! As a special treat, the Joy of Sake festival came by to pour samplings of amazing sakes. Kampai!
The crew from Milestones & Moments helped to capture the moment with a rad Yelp themed photo booth complete with wacky props! Kim C dotes, "They prepped us, encouraged us to have fun, walked us through on what would happen and spoke to us about their company. I've experienced several photo booths through Yelp and different parties, but this company has the best guest interaction." Word!
Esteban W sums it all up: "The event was awesome at an even greater level knowing that some kids out there are going to enjoy a great start to next years school year with the amazing stuff donated by fellow yelpers. 5-star folks, 5-star times. Bad ass."
