On the evening of Thursday, February 25th, Yelpers from North America gathered on Zoom to watch and learn from a woman-owned and Black-owned business here in Atlanta OTP, TreatsPhoria Baked Goods and Sweets. Every February, our nation comes together to celebrate the heritage and accomplishments of the Black community. To celebrate Black History Month, Yelp put together a series of events designed to showcase how Black-owned businesses contribute to, and often create, the unique culture of our cities. Cake It Easy with TreatsPhoria was a part of this series.
Earah Harris, owner and culinary director of TreatsPhoria, led an hour-long class on how to make a fun and tasty treat called a cakesicle. A cakesicle is a fun twist on cake pops. It’s made up of cake and frosting molded into the shape of a popsicle then dipped in your choice of chocolate!
Earah taught us everything about cake, frosting and following your dreams. She has been baking since she was eight years old. Her love for baking started off as a hobby that grew into a passion. After earning a degree in Graphic and Web Designing as well as decoration and cake certificates, Earah opened TreatsPhoria Baked Goods and Sweets in 2017!
During the event, Earah shared her inspirations; Mary Van Brittan Brown, Otis Boykin and Eartha Kitt, who all had significant contributions to the Black community. She also shared one of her favorite businesses, Divine Sprinkles, who creates Black Power sprinkles which Earah used for the cakesicles.
