Whether you’re at home ordering delivery or in need of professional help as a new homeowner, at Yelp, we want to help people discover more of their community based on what’s most valuable to them. Today, Android users will now have even more control over their Yelp experience with expanded ways to indicate their personal preferences and tailor the Yelp app based on their dietary preferences, lifestyle, and more – all in a new modernized redesign. These preferences will help people better discover the businesses and activities they’ll love the most. For example, vegetarians and burger lovers will now find completely different personalized restaurant, delivery and takeout recommendations right from the app’s homepage.
Alongside this new personalized user experience, this month, we’re also completing the roll out of our new modernized design for the Yelp Android app — providing a seamless and cohesive user experience when communicating and transacting with great local businesses.
What You Can Expect on the Android App This Month
A New Look and Feel: Yelp has grown into a one-stop local platform where people can easily discover, connect and transact with great local businesses. Whether you’re a new homeowner looking for competing quotes for movers or ordering takeout for the family, you’ll discover that our redesigned and cohesive consumer experience will help guide the way.
More Personalized Options Based on Your Lifestyle: Now, with the Android app’s new personal preferences onboarding flow, users can tell us more about their lifestyle preferences and interests to receive a completely personalized home and search experience. For parents, homeowners, pet owners, pescatarians, and more, we’re surfacing the most relevant content to you.
A Homepage Made Just for You: After indicating your preferences, you’ll find a personalized header when you open the app that adjusts based on what you told us matters most to you. Love Thai cuisine? We’ll provide a shortcut to search for Thai restaurants offering takeout or delivery near you.
Weekly Picks: Scroll through a roundup of Yelp’s best picks, curated for you. Based on the neighborhoods you frequent most, we’ll suggest local businesses that you might not have heard about or haven’t gotten around to trying yet.
If you haven’t shared your preferences with Yelp yet, you can do so through four simple steps as part of the updated onboarding flow. The preferences you share with Yelp will only be visible to you, and you can always change your preferences at any time from the “Me” tab. In the future, we’ll also introduce more tailored changes to the homepage such as businesses that are nearby and open now, and stuff worth planning for ahead of the weekend.
