Baking with Belén in Atlanta OTP

OTP kicked off Latinx Heritage Month by hosting a virtual empanada making class on Thursday, September 17, 2020. Local business owner, Belén of Belén De La Cruz in Johns Creek, Georgia led the class. Belén provided a list of ingredients prior to the class and offered locals the opportunity to purchase 12 of her authentic Argentinian shells for $5.00. Over 60 Yelpers from across the country tuned in.

Originally from Argentina, Belén moved to Atlanta in 2015, where she started giving cooking classes, organizing empanada ladies night out, teaching about empanadas, sharing her traditional flavors, and selling pastries. Her brother gave her the push to open their first store in February 2020 and has been serving Argentinian empanadas and pastries since!⁠

 

During the virtual class, Yelpers learned to make three different empanadas: veggie, caprese, and beef. Belén demonstrated different ways to prepare vegetables to fill the empanadas with as well as traditional and fun ways to fold the dough. Belén shared helpful tips and answered questions about all things empanadas. Yelpers left the class with important takeaways and delicious empanadas!
