The beauty of the desert extends so much further than 100-degree weather and chic music festivals. A whole city begins right at the base of a mountain, and at night when the heat turns luke warm, it’s the perfect time to jump in the pool. But what would make someone choose to spend 24-hours in Palm Springs? Well if you’re ever in town for a short period of time, check out these places and you’ll know why.
6AM: Hiking at Tahquitz Canyon
Wakey, wakey we’re going on a hike! Tahquitz Canyon is not only one of the most beautiful and culturally sensitive areas of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indian Reservation, but it is also home to a 60-foot rock waterfall inside this desert oasis. Be sure to come prepared with cash for the entrance fee, a light bite so you’re not hiking on an empty stomach, a swimsuit, and a large insulated water bottle (the reservation actually requires each person to carry a full 40 oz water bottle).
11AM: Brunch at Lulu California Bistro
Lulu’s is a staple on any Palm Springs trip. Their weekend-only brunch menu offers a 3-course meal for $20 +tax! With a mixed green salad to start, French scramble with boursin cheese as an entree, or their signature triple chocolate cake for dessert (or any of their options)––you can’t go wrong. Don’t forget a mimosa!
1PM: Thrift Store Retail Therapy at Victoria’s Attic Antiques
Treat yourself to something special. With two locations, Victoria’s Antiques is a 15,000+ sq. foot mall of unique treasures. Home to over 75 dealers, Victoria’s offers Red Wing pottery, vintage ice buckets, tiki bar mugs, and so much more.
3PM: Enjoy a cold one at Coachella Valley Brewing
A few minutes outside of the Palm Springs downtown (in Thousand Palms to be exact), is a great local brewery that you’d be crazy not to venture to. It may look like it’s in the middle of nowhere, but it is a local fave. Be sure to try the Hazy, Big Stick Energy, and Olmec’s curse! Pro tip: Anything on the chalkboard that has a yellow dot next to it is out of stock.
6PM: Progressive Feast Food Crawl
Switch it up and have dinner at not one, but all of these amazing restaurants. The best part is they are all walkable distance from each other. If walking isn’t your thing you can always take the free Palm Springs Buzz trolley. Start with a Hemingway Especial cocktail and duck-fat steak fries at Workshop Kitchen & Bar. Their award-winning restaurant design is a renovation of an original movie theater. Then head over to Eight4Nine to try the dungeness crab and corn chowder, then continue down the street to Birba (which is temporarily closed until the end of August) for an innovative spin on pizza, such as the braised greens, and the tutto carne. They also offer cauliflower and gluten free crust options. Finish off with a Donn Beach Zombie nightcap at Bootlegger Tiki bar.
OVERNIGHT: Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel
Located in the heart of downtown, and not far from the food crawl, is a chic desert hotel, where urban enchantments meet epic scenery. This spa-like retreat is sure to restore you mentally and physically from the long day.
8AM: Enjoy a wholesome breakfast at Peabody’s Cafe
Wake up the next morning, rejuvenated and ready to grub. Head over to Peabody’s Cafe who specializes in their breakfast plates, such as their eggs benedict and huevos rancheros. Also, their bloody mary’s are a must try!
