Updating your Yelp page: changes in hours, temporary closures, and take-out/delivery/virtual options

In times like these, access to accurate information is more vital than ever. We’ve compiled these step-by-step guides to help you easily update your Yelp business page with relevant changes to your operations. 

Changes can be made on the Yelp for Business app (on iPhone/iPad or Android) or the Yelp for Business site (desktop or mobile browser).

To expedite the display of updates on your page, claim your business and log in. Claiming your business on Yelp is free and allows updates to take effect immediately since they come directly from the business itself.


Update your hours of operation

We recommend changing your Special Hours so that customers can see the temporary change in your hours of operation. You can edit your Special Hours by adding each day where your current operating hours are different from your regular hours listed on Yelp. Special Hours are set on a day-by-day basis and can be changed at any time.

To update your hours:

Yelp for Business app

  1. Log in to the app and tap Biz Info at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Scroll down to Operation hours and at the bottom of the section, add/edit your Special Hours.
  3. Add new individual dates. You can set specific hours or mark as closed for the full day.
  4. Tap Save in the top right.

  1. Visit Yelp for Business (Business Information tab) and scroll down to Special Hours.
  2. Click Edit, then add new individual dates. You can set specific hours or mark as closed for the full day.
  3. Click Save.

Once your hours and days are saved, customers will be able to view a banner highlighting your Special Hours on your Yelp page as well as callouts in the hours section.


Add temporary closure information

If you are not currently open for business—in-person or online—you can mark your business as temporarily closed. This information can be updated as frequently as necessary. If you mark your business as temporarily closed, you will still be able to fully access and update your business account as needed. You can also turn on/off the Yelp “Message the Business” feature at any time.

Note: If your physical storefront is closed, but you are still offering services (for example, take-out, delivery, or virtual services), you should keep your business marked as open on Yelp and update your COVID-19 alert to inform customers about your available services.

To add this information:

Yelp for Business app

  1. Log in to the app and tap Biz Info at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Mark Business as Closed.
  3. Select Close Temporarily, then choose an “Opens again on” date.
    Note: If you don’t know exactly when you’ll be reopening, we encourage you to choose an approximate date. This date can be updated at any time.
  4. Tap Save.

Once complete, these changes go into effect immediately on your business page.

  1. Visit Yelp for Business (Business Information tab) and scroll down to Hours.
  2. Click Edit and scroll down to the Temporarily Closed? link at the bottom.
  3. This will open an overlay window that contains a link for access to the “Business Closed or Moved” page.
  4. Select Yes to confirm that this is your business, and scroll down to the checkbox next to Business Closed or Moved.
  5. Check the box and choose the applicable status. If you choose Temporarily Closed, you can also select a “Closed Until” date.
    Note: If you don’t know exactly when you’ll be reopening, we encourage you to choose an approximate date. This date can be updated at any time.
  6. Click Submit Changes. 

Once complete, these changes will first be verified by Yelp’s moderators before being displayed on your business page. For the changes to be displayed on your page immediately, please use the Yelp for Business app (on iPhone/iPad or Android).

Indicate the availability of take-out or delivery services

If you are providing take-out and/or delivery services, be sure that info is up to date. We will be directing Yelp users to those businesses in the coming weeks.

Takeout or delivery options

To update these services:

Yelp for Business app

  1. Log in to the app and tap Biz Info at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Scroll down to Known for and tap the pencil icon on the right to edit.
  3. Select yes for take-out and/or delivery, depending on what you are currently offering.
  4. Tap Save.

  1. Visit Yelp for Business (Business Information tab).
  2. Click Edit next to Basic Information.
  3. Select yes beside take-out and/or delivery, depending on what you are currently offering.
  4. Click Save Changes.


Option to add virtual service offerings

Choose from new service offerings that showcase the ways your business is available online. Depending on your business category, these service offerings may be available:

  • Virtual Classes
  • Virtual Consultations
  • Virtual Tasting Sessions
  • Virtual Tours
  • Virtual Experiences
  • Virtual Performances 

Service offerings will be displayed on your Yelp Business Page within the Services Offered section. In the upcoming week, search results will also be able to be filtered by businesses that have selected virtual offerings.

To add virtual service offerings:

  1. Log in to the app and tap Biz Info at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the pencil icon on the right next to Categories and services.
  3. Applicable service offerings will appear underneath the category. Check the box next to the services that apply. Note: If there are no applicable services for that category, you will not see any services to add.
  4. Tap Save.

  1. Visit Yelp for Business (Business Information tab).
  2. Click Edit next to Categories & Services.
  3. Applicable service offerings will appear underneath the category. Check the box next to the services that apply to your business. Note: If there are no applicable services for that category, you will not see any services to add.
  4. Click Save Changes.


Edit your COVID-19 Advisory Alert

A COVID-19 Advisory Alert is being displayed at the top of all Yelp Business Pages. You can now edit this alert to help you communicate specific updates about your business in response to COVID-19. If you don’t provide a custom message, a generic banner will be shown (pictured in the light blue rectangle in the image above).

To edit your alert:

  1. Log in to the app and tap Biz Info at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Edit the section for COVID-19 updates.
  3. Tap Save.

  1. Visit Yelp for Business (Business Information tab).
  2. Click Add Message in the section for COVID-19 updates.
  3. Click Save Changes.
